Books received over the holidays

<p>Not to get one or more books is odd in our house.</p>

<p>Let’s see what everybody got, now or recently for b-day’s and the like.</p>

<p>Our Dumb World by the Onion. At least one page for every country in the world. Hilarious.</p>

<p>My daughter got me THE SPARROW; she couldn’t bear to part with her copy so got me my own. </p>

<p>My daughter received EAT, PRAY, LOVE, and judging from the number of excerpts she’s read aloud to me, she seems to be enjoying it immensely. I got her STRIFE by a Zimbabwean author, as well as several other books by Zimbabwean authors (she’s headed to Zimbabwe fall quarter next year). Still waiting for OATH BETRAYED to arrive; I ordered it at the last minute, but it should arrive before she heads back to school. Last (but not least?), her college gave her a copy of OMNIVORE’S DILEMMA to read and evaluate as a possible Common Book for next year’s freshman. She’s heard very good things about it but is finding little motivation to actually read the book…not a good sign for a book being considered for the entire incoming freshman class!</p>

<p>1000 Places to visit before you die-I’m retiring next year but hopefully not croaking</p>

<p>The President’s Table-I enjoy Presidential history and have to admit the my wife and I watch BOOKTV on Saturday mornings where the author was interviewed about 6 months ago.</p>

<p>DD got me the new translation of War and Peace. (She knows it is one of my favorite books). I got DS When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops by George Carlin. When he first opened it he thought it was a religious book!</p>

<p>I got The Kite Runner and Rhett Butler’s People</p>

<p>The latter was just tons of fun and a very enjoyable read.</p>

<p>My (step)MIL sent me several books, all of which she bought used, meaning she got me more books. I was up at 1 AM last night to finish
The Book Thief</p>

<p>which was astonishingly good.</p>

<p>We read The Sparrow in book group & I almost just bought my own copy to read but I bought Eat,Pray, Love instead- just have to find it again ( we go back to Seattle today)</p>

<p>No one ever buys me books since I have way too many “books to read.” I got my H “Into the Wild” and “Onion’s The Dumb Century.” S got “The Road,” a few Chuck Palahnuik books, and “Four by Sondheim.”</p>

<p>I received Clapton the Autobiography. Some chapters are just too funny but you have to read through those dreadful drug/alcolhol chapters. </p>
