Looking for suggestions for comfortable, waterproof boots for my son. If I had a DD, I’d say UGGS (lots of sales these days), but I am clueless about young men.
Nothing wrong with Timberlands… or duck boots from LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Lands End
Boots for tromping around in snow/weather or more everyday wear? Just to clarify.
There are UGG boots for men too that are really nice. My boys like Timberlands but they are in high school. Sperry and Sorel boots are nice too. Take a look at the Nordstrom website for ideas. They always have quality brands.
Ugg actually has a lot of boots that don’t look anything like a sheepskin boot. My S wears a lot of Ugg branded footwear as his fiancé works for a related company. They make some really nice looking footwear.
My 30something has a pair of Sperry duck boots…and he likes them.
CAT footwear all the way.
For snow weather. When asked for my opinion, I immediately went to Nordstrums site. I think UGGs are so comfortable, with the warm lining. I like that so many CCers think alike. I jus didn’t know if men wore UGGs.
I’d suggest my son drive to nordstrums, but the nearest store is in the Burlington mall, and I’m not about to suggest he drive there, with all the icy roads.
As always, I appreciate the suggestions.
Blundstone boots are very in right now with young men, but they are not for stomping in a foot of snow. For that, I’d by the perennially hip LLBean snow boots.
My sons (20s) both have Timberlands, and they seem to like them. REI is another good place to look. They return most anything, even once worn, so if they don’t work after a wear or two he could try something else.
ETA my sons would not wear Uggs.
Any chance you can take the kid boot shopping? Let him try on some different types of boots. If you have. Dicks, or Cabelas, or LLBean near you…you will have LOTS of options to see.
Here is what my son has
But if you get the same style boot at LLBean…it’s guaranteed for life.
Just some examples of men’s waterproof Ugg boots. They have other styles as well including a duck style boot.
@bookworm I don’t know how fashion sensitive your guy is but my stylish two boys said that Uggs would be fine BUT you have to pick the right style. (I hate when they say that to me) Also check out LLBean, REI and Timberland. You are a little bit off season for a full color selection but could get a good price. What temperature? And some of the Ugg boot links have boots that look too low for real snow weather. I have Uggs for me but around town not stomping through high snow.
My older guys have snow boots like these: https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/79876?feat=629-GN1&page=men-s-l-l-bean-snow-boots&csp=f The warmth rating was important for them and they are high enough to keep snow out.
My son who is not very fashionable has a pair of waterproof Merrelll shoes that are waterproof. Sorels are very nice. If he’s preppy, llbean boots are very popular. My kid wanted something comfortable and waterproof. And something he didn’t have to pick out so he was happy with the Merrell’s.
My kids consciously avoid footwear that is popular in the greek scene - no UGGS, no Timberlands. I agree most kids would like what everyone is wearing but it is something to be careful about.
S1 mainly wears a pair of dark gray waterproof chukkas, not sure of the brand.
Gearmom, Cambridge, Massachusetts. I have merrills, which are like UGGs. REI is in Boston, and Nordstrums in Burlington. Knowing my son, he’ll probably order on line. For shoes, I always think it is best to try on. He asked for suggestions, so I’m forwarding all this info to him.
@bookworm Well, you can’t go wrong with LLBean in Cambridge and they get real snow. Also REI. I’d tend to get quality tech gear from those for Boston.
Two of my three like Timberlands. (22 and 25) - not the “yellow” ones that were faddish 4-5 years ago, One likes the Earthkeeper line from Timberland and the other likes the Chillberg. The 29 year old likes Irish Setters. The LL Bean duck boats are great…but not really on ice and snow, better for mud and rain.
ECCO makes winter boots which are great for walking, gore-tex, and wool lined.
