Borderline H.S Student- Chance me?

Hey so I go to a pretty good public high school in Illinois and here’s the goodies:

I’m Indian (lol)

I’m not sure how to go about the SAT/ACT conversions, so here’s my ACT SCORES:

34-English
34-Math
32-English/Writing

I’m a little confused on this because on one test I received a 12 on the writing but 32 on english, and another one i received a 34 on english but only a 9 on the writing. Do they take writing scores individually?

I think with conversions I have:
790–>english
790–>math
720–>writing

yielding a 2300 converted SAT score? Am I correct?

Calculated GPA according to Georgia Tech

3.143 –> Yes this is very low, and my biggest concern for admissions. Is the gpa too low to even be considered despite a 50% acceptance rate?

Examples of Rigor in curriculum:

junior year had AP Bio, AP Stats, and AP Language and Comp.

ALL AP CLASSES:
AP Biology, AP Chemistry
AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB
AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition
AP Psychology, AP Human Geography
AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics

ALL Honors classes:

Honors Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
Honors English I and II
Honors World History
Honors Pre-calculus

Notable Electives:
anatomy and physiology
2 years of Spanish

Summation of curriculum:
6 years of Science
5 years of Math
4 years of English
4.5 years of Social Studies (if psychology counts)
3 years fine arts (choir)
2 years of Foreign Language

Potential Majors
• Biochemistry
• Biomedical Engineering
• Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Potential Minors
• Mathematics (I’d be taking so many math classes anyway)
• Finance

Extra-curricular Activities
• 50 hours of shadowing Nephrology Clinical Doctor(s)
• Dr. Rubin’s Medical School (competitive 6 week crash course of medical school for high school students)
• (100-150 hours) of ER Volunteer service at Hospital
• Service Clerk at Walgreens
• Single-handedly organized 3 v 3 b-ball tourney (12 teams) with a profit of $289 (leadership)
• Track and Field (5th place at conference for high jump and was on 4 x 200m relay team)
• Church choir
• Martial Arts (1st degree black belt)
4 years of Intramural basketball
• Student Council Representative for 4 years
• 3 years of JSA (debate club)

Key points: good standardized test scores, horrible gpa, good extracurriculars, and you can expect a decent essay

Chance me please?

GPA will almost end your chances since their major concern is GPA. Don’t apply early try to get it up a little for regular decision.

I agree with Motheshow. I am also Indian and was a borderline student. My advice is to do regular decision and write a compelling essay. That is most likely what got me in. The low GPA does hurt a lot though.

Everything is impressive except the GPA. That’s a major negative, and it may keep you from being admitted.

Definitely low GPA, write extremely good essays and let them do the rest.

Your converted score is roughly 2220, by the way. I converted each score to a percentile then converted that percentile to 800 to get your SAT converted score.

I’m in a similar situation, but have good essay topics upward trend and 35 english 36 Math and 33 Eng + Writing.
