Wow! This thread is very inspiring with some folks having obtained pretty good lives after some rough times while others are still on their journey. Good to read that DBT seems to work well for many.

Can certainly see why adolescence and young adulthood would cause symptoms to flare with all the changes and stress. Sometimes feel you see parts of some of these conditions in people you meet.

So sorry to hear this, MaineLonghorn. Sounds like you are keeping your wits about you in what is certainly a very difficult time. I’m sure he is keenly aware of the love and support that is coming his way from his mom.

Hugs and prayers to ML son and family. NAMI is an amazing organization. I have two friends dealing with similar situations to yours and NAMI has been a blessing. Their literature has also raised awareness for all of us connected to the families. I hope that society becomes more aware of mental health issues; they are very widespread and misunderstood. More best wishes to you as you parent through this difficult situation.

MaineLonghorn, Best wishes to you and your family during this tough time. With the help of medical and family support I hope your son will soon show signs of progress and recovery.

MaineLonghorn, I so feel for you. In my experience dealing with mental illness in a family member is a much greater challenge than coping with a physical illness. A physical illness, even when dire, is concrete and generally has specific treatments. Mental illness can be frustratingly elusive re treatment.
You are doing such a service to others by being open about your son’s situation. Blessings to all of your family. I am glad you are getting good support.
