boring $10 essay

I feel that my essay is really boring…ordinary. its my 11th attempt (i know.) and the deadline’s getting close. I spent 10 bucks buying a jigsaw puzzle (1000 pieces) and went through the day describing the fundamental parts of building a puzzle.
eh.

Anyone else feels like their essay is really lacking in wow-ness?

my personal opinion: i dont think you should spend all of the 10 dollars in one place. is buying a puzzle your idea of planning an adventure?

I don’t think it should be too over-the-top. I personally think they are looking for something more ordinary, but still adventuress. When it gets too crazy, it seems unrealistic and like you’re just trying to impress. :)

i took your opinion into consideration spikedsoymilk.
You’ll be glad to hear i’ve started on essay attempt #12.

…killme.

i’m sorry. frown

how about actually taking your 10 dollars, get lost in your local downtown (or a well known point of interest near your home) and keep track of what you spend with it? be sure to budget! ^^

i think you just need some inspiration.

i actually wrote it on going to the local corn maze  Getting lost in this human sized maze. What do you think?

OH… that would be fun… :)

How did you spend your 10$, just curious.

on the ticket for the maze. The rest of the day was just talking about how determined I was to get out without taking the short cut, how my thinking process worked…

It’s my 12th attempt. I’m getting desperate.

That sounds really nice =)

Ask some more people, but I think you got it the 12th time. Go for it!

lol “I think you got it the 12th time.”

Yeah…hopefully. 12 . essays. drafts.
I’m freaking nuts. good luck with yours!

When I went to JHU over the summer, the admissions officer told me to focus on the “adventure” more than the money. Hope it helps.

^^^^
Yes, don’t worry about the breakdown of the $10. My essay used the $10 for a rafting/camping/hiking trip (which would in reality cost a bit more than $10). Not terribly creative, but an adventure that described my interests.

My advice is to pick out one of your interests and then somehow work the $10 in. That’s what I did, at least.

yeah, I agree with you guys. I’m just spending it ( at least this essay around) on a ticket. Not buying anything else. The main focus is the maze itself.

I wish I know what you guys are talking about!!!

i didn’t spend the $10 dollars in my essay

i basically denounced the topic by explaining that you don’t need money to have a good time. explained some very fond memories i had with friends that didn’t cost anything. basically concluded that you could give me 10 or 10,000 dollars and i’d still have a good time if i was with my friends

kinda cheesy but it got me in

Must your $10 essay reflect your interests? Can it be a really crazy idea that shows your creativity and your crazy side? I.e. I read in the $10 thread, that someone wrote about splitting the $10 with all the citizenry of an imaginary state (everyone got .0875 cents each). Would an essay like that be OK too?

Mine is gonna be crazy. I tried to do the safe route of what I’d actually do, but my ideas suck, and I barely know my own city. So I’m gonna do something crazy, like what johndoe said. :D

lol…bottom line. This essay is quote brain work inducing. to put it nicely.

Good luck to all of you!

er…typo –
quite, not quote

Does it matter whether I do the $10 essay or the other essay they offer. The second one seems easier but apparently they really like you to do the $10 essay.
