Boston Back Bay hotel recos

Need room for one night in Boston. The next day we are touring Northeastern in AM, Tufts in PM and taking S1s friends out to dinner the night before. They attend Northeastern and Emerson, so Back Bay seems the logical place to stay.

I don’t want to break the bank. on Expedia, found Midtown, Copley House and Chandler Inn. A friend noted she’s stayed at Midtown, but said its not great. Any other suggestions, would like to keep it under $225including taxes, parking and Internet.

My D lives in Back Bay Boston.
H and I booked a room for under $200/night (before taxes, parking, etc. though) at the Lenox, an old-world four-star hotel, for Thanksgiving weekend. Reviews were very good. Not sure same rate would be available for this time of year, as September is a busy month in Boston.
"Location.
The Lenox Hotel Boston is located 1 block from Copley Square and the shops along Newbury Street in Boston, Mass. The hotel stands within 2 blocks of Trinity Church and the Hynes Convention Center. Fenway Park is located a half-mile away. "

On what date?

I was browsing hotels.com and I saw special rate for Sheraton Back Bay for $199-209 for Sept 26th (randomly picked). You can walk from the Sheraton to NEU easily in the morning.

First week of November - NJ teachers convention. Best opportunity for college visits! Most admissions counselors ask that everyone from NJ raise their hands and over 80% do for schools in a 5 hour drive.

The killer is parking is $20-30 and not included.

I’ve stayed at the Marriot Courtyard Copley Square on Exeter Street, right behind the library, many times. Great location. The staff is very pleasant. The only meal they serve is breakfast, but there are zillions of restaurants within a block or two. I stayed there on business, so I can’t recall the rate.

Best Western Roundhouse Suites was pretty reasonable - not in Back Bay, but they have a shuttle that can take you to Northeastern, not sure about Tufts, but there is a T stop about 0.4 mi from hotel. The area around hotel is a bit rundown, but I never had any issues there.

The Lenox is fine, though sometimes you’ll get a room that seems to be exploring mismatched patterns. The Midtown is a relic, pretty much the most desirable development site in the city, directly across from the Christian Science Center and where 2 new buildings, one 58 stories and the other 25, will be built. It’s old. It has parking. The Lenox has a better location, right next to the Boston Public Library and thus 1 block from Copley Square. Now if you’re visiting NEU, you can easily walk there from the Midtown and can still walk there from the Lenox if you like walking.

We have stayed at the Midtown and Sheraton. Sheraton is nicer but more expensive. Midtown is really adequate. It’s only one night. I’d go for the best price.

I think that the Lenox is on the same block as the Marriot Courtyard.

I’ve stayed at the Omni, near Faneuil Hall. classy, but I got a good rate.

For the last 3 years, I’ve stayed in Cambridge, but even with student/parent discount, always over $250.

We usually stay at either the Hilton or Sheraton (both by the Prudential) whichever is cheaper. Rate very wildly depending upon the night - sometimes they are under $200 sometimes they top $300. I get the AAA rate (cheaper than the Northeastern/Tufts visitor rates).

Oh, and be happy if you only pay $30 for parking - I usually end up shelling out closer to $40

And BTW if parking costs are a concern (they can get out of hand in Boston), the Roundhouse Suites has fee parking, too, along with free continental breakfast.

Hot wire a hotel or use priceline. I have done this and gotten great hotels – sometimes for over $200, sometimes less. And, Boston isn’t that big, so you don’t have to limit yourself to just the back bay, can stay near there. I’ve never had a car to park, though.

We stayed a few nights at Midtown for Northeastern Parent Weekend a few years ago. I think the rate (with Northeastern discount) was $159 on weekend, a bit higher Thursday night.

It was not glitzy, but we were very happy with it. The rooms were large and clean. The location worked very well for us. Per the website, parking is still only $18/night [Budget Boston Accommodations - Pet Friendly Boston Hotel - Best Accommodations in Boston - Comfy and Cozy Rooms in Boston Near Tourist Attractions - The Midtown Hotel](http://www.midtownhotel.com/accommodations.html)

Lowes just bought the Back Bay Hotel on Berkeley Street, and they’ve been running various specials for their hotels all over the country. Since many people don’t know it as a Lowes yet, they may be keeping it reasonable. (It’s also a cool building - the former Boston Police Department Headquarters.)
