We are headed to Cleveland this weekend for an admitted students’ event. Have to take 12 yr old S along with us. Anything interesting on the way for him? How about in Cleveland itself?

in central NY you could go to the soccer hall-of-fame … it would be about an hour out of the way

Niagara Falls?

You can see the ocean at the first rest stop past the NY border.

How far out of the way woudl you go?

Cooperstown, but it’s probably to far out of your way if there is a time constraint.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…in Cleveland. A real winner!!

If you go near Middlebury, Ohio, which is slightly southeast of Cleveland, you will definitely be driving on roads w/ Amish buggies. It may be slightly out of your way, but my daughter was fascinated with the culture when I took her on a tour of schools in Ohio when she was a junior.

Done the trip numerous times (we live outside of Boston and my step-daughter and her husband live in Cleveland). There’s really not much to see along the way–you’re on Interstate 90 for almost all 650 miles.

I’d go for doing a few things in Cleveland with your younger S. Try the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s fun and interesting. Great building. If you like baseball, you could go to an Indian’s game. It is easy to get tickets; we found excellent seating that was not too pricey (at least compared to Fenway) plus the food (except for beer) was free in the section where we sat. Check Playhouse Square–plays and concerts and dance performances. Our family has taken us to a Polish restaurant (Sokowolsky–not sure of the spelling) where you can get lots of good food. Cultural stuff (art museum, natural history) all in one area–University Heights.

Little Italy is fun and it’s near all the u’s in Cleveland, have a meal there. The west side market is also a nice stop but it mostly has food and might not be that exciting if you are from Boston.

We usually do a lot of shopping in Cleveland, Legacy Village or Beechwood Mall are the bigger places to go.

The Football Hall of Fame is in Canton OH. I’m not sure how far that is from Cleveland. I second the recommendation of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You could also get tickets to a Cleveland Indians game. The stadium is in the middle of the city. There is also a great amusement park in Sandusky OH, a little past Cleveland. Cooperstown is great if you’re a baseball fan, but it isn’t near a major highway. What route are you taking? I am very familiar with Route 80 since S1 is at U of Michigan. There is absolutely nothing off Route 80 in PA - most of it is rural once you get past the bigger cities in the eastern part of the state.

Sturbridge Village

We took a similar route last summer and Niagara Falls made a great place to visit/overnight.
