Boston College 2023 Waitlist

No. It doesn’t work like that really. When it’s a really small group each year it’s not really the waves you hear about at other schools. They are picking and choosing to fill majors, profiles and attributes. None mean better just specific niches in the mosaic. If nothing by June 4th probably not going to happen. But with 5 10 or 50 spots it’s a long shot for everyone.

Does anyone know how many out of the 5k students accepted spots on the waitlist?

3791 last year. But the pool was over 6000 for 2022. So same percentages most likely. Or in that range.

Exactly.
It could even be that your Regional Rep is on vacation this week, so his/her invitations go out next week (assuming that a decision was actually made).

They are using WL to fill the summer-melt, the dropout of committed students. so available space will be limited, and the dropout can happen any time.and last well into summer.

My so s friend got in off the waitlist this week. So it is possible. Good luck to those still waiting

i am hearing a few people more off wait list so keep the faith. have not decided if will accept the spot offered have a few days to think about it

Anyone from Maine get in off the waitlist?

I emailed my admissions officer today and she said that only a few students were admitted these past few days. Right not they are not sure if they will be doing any more. They hope that decisions will be out by early June. Good luck to everyone.

Does anyone know if they’re continuing to use the waitlist? I know they sent out some admissions last week but typically they release admissions in waves.

The class is already full. No waves for this year. Any open spot is created by the dropout of a committed student, who got off WL of another school. so it is rare…

Just got off the waitlist today, I’m from michigan and got into the Carrol School of Management.

Good luck to those still waiting

Congrats @bregwil - This year CSOM had approximately 8,000 applications for 500 spots!

How do you find out such information? I would be interested in reading their stats. Did you call or is it posted somewhere?

That’s what I was “told over the phone…” I hope BC will publish these admissions stats someday.
Many people (even BC alums) don’t realize how competitive admissions are at BC these days…

Big caveat, the numbers in post #113 unfortunately do not let us calculate the acceptance rate. 500 spots is not 500 acceptances. Yield must be accounted for. While the applicant pool for CSOM is presumed to be more competitive than for the other schools, all I’ve ever seen from admissions in the past is that acceptance rates across schools have been “similar.” I have never seen a specific acceptance rate for CSOM revealed.

Thinking out loud, it would be interesting to find out whether the yield for CSOM is different than for the other schools. If the overall yield of 27% (class of 2022) were applied to CSOM 2023’s 500 spots, they’d need to admit 1851, which would be an acceptance rate of 23% – sounds reasonable though I think others suspect the actual acceptance rate for CSOM is lower.

We already know that the acceptance rate for this year is going to be 27% at the lowest for the University as a whole. It might go up to 28% depending on how much they use the waitlist. So my guess is they don’t expect yield to be quite as high as last year. This for for University as a whole.

Be careful with trying to estimate admission stats by college. I’ve been on cc a long time and have never seen such stats. A former parent poster who was an active volunteer at BC used to post that the admit rates between CSOM & A&S weren’t that much different.

But even so, one has to remember that the schools have different missions, and therefore likely have different admit processes. For example, admissions to the Nursing and Ed schools generally require appropriate EC’s. Thus, those with relevant EC’s will have a much higher admit rate than those without. With a strong Core, perhaps A&S looks for strengths across multiple disciplines? Add in geographic factors… OTOH, Calc BC is probably a big plus for CSOM. As is gender. (As noted, BC does not publish the stats, but most every other undergrad biz school provides a plus factor to female applicants, and there is no reason to believe that BC does not do the same.)

My point is that, even with the gross numbers, they won’t help individual applicants that much.

CSOM competes with other “national business programs” – the rankings are very data driven…
