Boston College class of 2024 (EDI, EDII, RD) applicants

@privatebanker really appreciate you taking the time.

@privatebanker I didn’t see any confirmed ED totals but BC said they wanted to fill 40% through ED. There were only 1000 EDII applications so a acceptance rate in mid 30’s seemed reasonable (EDI was 33%). That doesn’t take into account ED deferrals which might bring the ED totals to half the incoming class (+200).

Is financial aid being sent in the mail or will it come out on the portal?

@T20hopeful2023 Thx

I saw some numbers from ed1 that seemed like a higher percentage of admitted. But your numbers look very reasonable as well.

@sky177 My award is in the Agora Portal

My daughter’s was on the portal under the admitted stuff

Some additional info from BC letter to HS counselors:
This year, Boston College received approximately 29,400 applications for 2,325 openings in the Class of 2024. As shared in a previous communication, 1,000 spaces were filled via Early Decision when we admitted 37% of ED applicants. This left 1,325 openings to be filled from a Regular Decision pool of 26,700.
The Regular Decision admit rate is 22%. The mean composite SAT for Regular Decision admits is 1467 and the mean composite ACT score is 34. Admitted students hail from 49 US states, 2 US territories, and are citizens of 78 countries.
We will offer a place on the waiting list to a little more than 6,500 students. While a waiting list of this size feels large, we feel it necessary given the many uncertainties facing our profession and society this year.

@MrMagoo Thanks - good info. So
EDI 1750 apps 757 accepted 32.9%
EDII 950 apps 425 accepted 44.7%
RD 26700 apps 5875 accepted 22.0%
Total 29400 apps 6875 accepted 23.4%

Figure they will have a few ED fall out due to FinAid so the RD yield will be around 23%
Bold move in extending wait list to 6500

@T20hopeful2023 36% were accepted ED1, just over 600. ED2 in the high 300s, total 1000 for ED1 and ED2 together, about 37% of ED1 + ED2 apps, per 2mrmagoo’s post.

Makes sense. I know they increased the accepted pool because of Coronavirus.

So the overall acceptance rate was 23.3 percent.

That’s rough.

Considering how strong the pool is top to bottom.

generally like Georgetown and ND few apply “just because” or by checking a box.

Hang in there waitlist group. There’s so much going on.

@privatebanker: I’m guessing that the economic shock brought by the Corona Virus will cause more parents than normal to balk at tuition costs. This would open up more spots than usual for wait list kids.

D20 and I both love BC so much, but in reviewing at all these financial aid #'s, it appears they will come in at around $8000 more per year than the other schools she is considering (This is kind of what I have been afraid of all along: I suspect it has to do with home equity and BC taking that more into account than other schools.) So it looks like BC will not be in the cards for her. Hopefully, someone here who is on the WL can benefit from this.

Best of luck to all!

oh, to be that lucky applicant from un-named state 50… :smiley:

(That WL is staggering.)
