Boston College Class of 2028 Official Thread

Deferred from ED and rejected. 3.9 uw. Highest rigor possible from her private school. Great EAs, lots of service. No test scores which didn’t help. I’m glad they rejected and didn’t waitlist. She can finally move on.

Daughter Waitlisted. 4.0UW, 4.7 Weighted. Strong essays, Advanced Music, Swim Team, Ultimate Frisbee, College Research with Professor in intended Major. She already has been accepted to a top10 school, so she will not pursue the waitlist.

got wl. And I was wondering if I should not pursue waitlisting.

Got waitlisted as well. Deferred ED1, then waitlisted. 33 ACT, 4.1 GPA, strong EC’s, strong essays, strong LOR. BC has always been my #1, and I’ll be accepting a spot on the waitlist, but does anyone know how it works? They said they are updating waitlisted applicants in July, so how would we go about accepting a different school? It just seems so disruptive to be preparing to attend a different school and then completely transition to BC if you are notified that you are off the waitlist at BC.

How many students get off waitlist? Waiting till
July is difficult.

They said anywhere from 50-300 in a typical year but it depends on how many people accept their acceptance from BC, so its possible the number is 0.

Daughter declined. poop. Still waiting on a few but it’s looking like she may be a Banana Slug even though I’m trying to get her to consider CUBoulder and Indiana. We are in S. Cal. so I’m thinking UCSanta Cruz is the best “bang for our buck”… save the rest of our $$ for grad school.

In the past, BC has offered waitlist spots to several thousand extremely qualified applicants. In recent years VERY, VERY few students were admitted off the waitlist - some years under 50 waitlist acceptances. With this in mind, the best advice is to mentally fully commit to one of your accepted schools and to try not to plan or think about coming off a waitlist. I know this may be difficult to process at this moment in time. Best of luck to you - I am sure that you will have some amazing options.

Daughter WL. 4.0 UW, 4.3 W, 6 APs (5s on all) & 10 honors, awesome leadership, tons of service hours & regional talent awards. Nationally ranked T100 public school, but definitely not Catholic. Frankly happy with WL since didn’t report ACT/SAT - didn’t even take them.

Son admitted and extremely happy ! 4.0/4.4, 1560, 10 AP/Honors, large urban public school, decent EC’s and activities. Admitted to Carrol School of Management.

The letter says " you have been assigned 4 years of on-campus housing …" - is housing not provided for all 4 years for every student ? What am I missing ?

@Viki9 Congrats! And on the housing question…BC website housing FAQ says that most students are guaranteed 3 years of housing. So being offered four years is definitely a bonus! Congrats again!

Son might well end up at IU. It’s a good school in a classic college town.

Just not where we thought this would end. Oh well, it’s all what you make of it.

Our letter said the same thing I assume it was a plus. He did not get any scholarship money so we will have to rescind, hopefully someone else can get his spot.

IU is a fantastic school. I would argue a much more diverse college experience than BC. My daughter was waitlisted from BC last year and was devastated. She ended up at SYracuse and could NOT be happier! It all works out as it should.

IU is a great school with a beautiful campus in a great college town. Not sure if your son is a business major, but the Kelley School of Business is ranked much higher than BC’s business school.

Congratulations! Most students at BC are offered three years of housing. They live on campus freshman and sophomore year, then live off-campus junior year, and come back and live on campus senior year. A small percentage of students (I’ve heard 10%, but not sure if that’s accurate) are offered four years of housing. It’s a very nice benefit - congrats!
