Boston Hotel

Hi,
I have a friend who is planning a surprise trip to Boston for her husband’s 50th birthday. She can get a good rate at the following hotel -

The Westin Boston Waterfront
425 Summer Street
Boston, Massachusetts 02210 United States

She wants to know if it’s in a good area and if it’s close to any of the fun historical things in Boston? She is also wondering the best way to get from the airport to the city…?

He is going to a Red Sox game on Friday and has all day Saturday to do things in the city. Taking any suggestions (he will not have a car).

Ain’t nothing there but the Convention Center.

If he’s going to a Red Sox game, a hotel in the Copley Square area would be much more convenient.

Best way to get to the city from the airport is to take the T (subway).

My daughter was in Boston last weekend and stayed at the Marriott at Copley Place. They had a great time and thought the hotel eas great, very nice and close to everything.

I’ve always wanted to stay at the Liberty Hotel. It would be about 3 miles N of Fenway, closer to downtown. I mostly stay in Coolidge Corner, on Beacon, at the Courtyard by Marriott (hotel actually on Webster St.). This is a short distance from Fenway and the T is right outside the hotel.

The most important thing about finding a hotel in Boston is to be close to a T stop. If you’re near the T you can get anywhere easily.

To/from the airport - Silver Line to South Station, then the Red Line.

I took a look at an interesting (fairly) new hotel when I was last there. It’s a restoration of the old city jail with a tower behind. The Charles/MGH T stop and Beacon Hill are right across the street. Not cheap. [Boston Massachusetts Luxury Hotel ?
It really isn’t that far to Fanuel Hall and other historical sites. It is a short walk in my opinion. OTOH, you will not want to walk if it is very cold, snowing or raining. There is a T stop (silver line) about 3-4 blocks down the street. Hotel may have a shuttle there. It is not near Fenway Park, but you can take the T there.

Fabulous new hotel. On the waterfront near the North End (Boston’s Little Italy and also has the Paul Rever house somewhere in that neighborhood). Eat dinner in the North End - yummo. Visit Faneuil Hall for shops in a rehabbed set of wharf buildings with cobblestone walkways and street performances (walking distance from hotel). Take the T or a cab to Fenway - it’s across town. There is T (transit) from the airport to a few blocks’ walk from the hotel - check the Boston MBTA website. Walk the Rose Kennedy Greenway Saturday or go to Chinatown (at the start of the greenway). Dim Sum Saturday or Sunday morning - more yum. Transit across the river to Harvard Square is also a fun Saturday trip. Museum of Fine Arts (near Fenway) is wonderful. MIT museum is a gem.

We stayed at the Hilton Financial District and walked or took the T to everything (including the Red Sox Game). We also stayed at the Cambridge Marriott which was right next to MIT on the Charles River. With the T we were able to reach everywhere in Boston with no problems. From the airport we took a cab.

check rates for Omni Parker, downtown. next to Fanuel Hall.
