I am meeting my son and family for a long weekend in Boston. I am arriving on Delta (Terminal A) while they are flying in on Jet Blue (Terminal C.) If both flights arrive on time, I arrive 20 minutes after them. I would like to collect my luggage and head to Terminal C so I can help them with the kids, carseats and such; we will then most likely take Uber to the Airbnb.
I know there are pedestrian walkways between the terminals or airport Shuttle bus system; what I can not figure out is which is quickest and easiest from baggage claim. For the walkway, do I have to go back toward the gates? Is the bus system closer to baggage claim? I am making the assumption that it will be far quicker for me to head to them, vs trying to wrangle 2 little ones and all their luggage to come to me. Of course if one of our flights is late, we will rethink on the fly; I just need to figure out getting from A ot C.
The walkway from Terminal A will take you on a series of escalators, into Central Parking and might involve an elevator, as I recall. Take the shuttle bus, much easier, especially with luggage.
If I take the shuttle, does it run fairly often? Will I be able to go to baggage claim at Terminal C, or does it drop off elsewhere? I didn’t know if arrivals and departures were on the same level, or at least close.
Baggage claim is on the ground level. Departures and gates are one level up. Arrivals disembark at gate level and sign direct them down to baggage claim
If the flights land as scheduled it stands to reason that you’ll get your bags 20 minutes after they do. I would suggest meeting at the Uber pick up location in Central Parking. Both the A and C terminals utilize the same Uber meeting spot. Your family will have a much shorter, and easier walk to the designated Uber area.
I have no idea about this airport, but would it be easier to Uber from one to the other? I know our friends started paying to go from the airport to rental car companies, even thought they could take a shuttle, because it’s just easier.
@GKUnion That could be an option, but the goal is to help them with the kids while handling luggage, carseats and a pack n play. Not enough hands to go around! But, glad to know the Uber is the same location for both Terminals
@Colorado_mom Yes, we will need an Uber XL; this is my son’s domain!
Maybe this isn’t a thing but can they arrange for some help to get their stuff and meet you at the Uber pick up? Like one of those golf cart type thingies that take you to a gate?
Or could one of them take stay with their stuff while they bring the kids to you (leaving the other adult to stay with the stuff) and then that adult returns and the couple being the stuff to where you and the kids are?? (I have no idea the distance involved!)
@abasket Besides the distance, I think the time alone would make this not a viable option. They will have a 17 month old that I assume will have missed his nap, and not a happy camper.
As @skieurope and @Metawampe mentioned above, it sounds like I am best taking the shuttle bus. My son and family will not be moving quickly with bathroom stops and maybe snacks for the kids before heading to get their luggage. They probably also have to wait at the gate for the stroller, so IF my flight is on time, it should work out for me to meet them at their baggage claim.
If it helps, I live in downtown Boston and am at the airport frequently. I was there yesterday, in fact. The shuttle buses run on a constant loop. They’re the fastest and easiest solution for what you want to do.
We fly to Logan once or twice a year. I like it, but perhaps my opinion is influenced by our typical 5am arrival after redeye flight… not too crowded.
