I have been asked to help with a party for people who are moving from Chicago to Boston. So I need some creative ideas to contribute! Yes, there will be Boston baked beans as part of the meal and Boston cream pie for dessert. And maybe we’ll see if Legal Seafood ships out. Oh yes, we’ll play “Dirty Water,” LOL. And, ahem, Boston and Aerosmith. But I’m kind of dry after that. How to communicate Boston as the theme?

Red Sox, duh. Celtics… My Boston relatives are kind of rabid about those two. Paul Revere… (not technically Boston but close enough). Anything Irish… Ducklings…

You could have a tea party. :)

OOOh and Harvard Beets!

I have no clue what a Harvard beet is?

And yeah, I totally would have suggested a Boston Tea Party theme if it weren’t for the recent Tea Parties! Bummer … they ruined a perfectly good theme …

Harvard Beets are a sweet-sour side dish - delicious if you like beets. [Harvard Beets | DeliciousBits](http://www.deliciousbits.com/vegetable/harvard_beets_1.html)

Legal Seafoods definitely ships - [Legal Sea Foods - The Standard for Quality and Freshness in the Mail Order Seafood Business](<a href=“Legal Sea Foods - Shipped Nationwide – Legal Sea Foods Online”>Legal Sea Foods - Shipped Nationwide – Legal Sea Foods Online)

To your fine musical repertoire I would add the Dropkick Murphys (the anything Irish) and the Boston Pops 1812 overture (a fitting finale). And to the menu, Boston Baked Beans - the candy.

I’ve lived near Boston for 20+ years and never heard of Harvard Beets. Definitely do the baked beans. If you’re living large, lobsters work too haha. Or a Cape Cod clam bake (which is actually just a regular clam bake).

As for theme/decorations - if your guests of honor are into sports, that’s the easiest thing to do. Boston is a sports-CRAZY town. Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins. Or Colleges - Harvard, MIT, Notheastern, BC, BU are the biggies.

Other general themes to keep in mind - Cape Cod, and anything to do with Paul Revere/Sam Adams/the Revolutionary war. Another option - the Boston Marathon.

Music list sounds good - Dirty Water, (also Sweet Caroline for the Red Sox fans), Dropkick Murphys, Aerosmith.

Sam Adams beer, Parker House rolls, lobsta , chowda ( in comes Legal Seafood )
Lots of other musicians got their start in Boston too
Bonnie Raitt ( Cambridge ) Aimee Mann, Boston…J.Geils Band…Mighty Mighty Bosstones to name a few.

Charley on the MTA is is always a favorite. Here is the youtube version

[YouTube - Kingston Trio - M. T. A.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VMSGrY-IlU)

I’m sure you can find a thousand audio versions…

Also every Boston school has a “fight song” - lots of them are old and fun…

Anything “Cheers” related…

I think the Kingston Trio song will be a bit obscure for people who aren’t from Massachusetts. The audience here aren’t people FROM Boston, it’s people who are sending off someone moving to Boston, so the cultural references have to be pretty easy ones to get.

Look at these Boston skyline invitations I found …

Though scroll down and apparently the Statue of Liberty has been moved to Boston, too!

Our high school did an all night party last year where the theme was a day in Boston. Some of the highlights where the New England Aquarium, Fanieul Hall, Swan boats in the Public Gardens, The Green Monster at Fenway Park, the Lenny Zakim Bridge. The North End (Hanover Street) Boston Duck Tours.

My neighbor recreated the Green Monster in her yard once for a party (easy to do) and set up the bases for a imitation Red Sox/Yankees Game. It kept the kids and teens happyand busy.

LOL now I have Charley on the MTA stuck in my head. Haven’t been in Boston in years. Thanks for that.

In college I won a pitcher of beer for singing all the verses of Charley on the MTA at Betty’s Roll Royce near Fanueil Hall. Could this be a party activity idea?

Boston Trivia Quiz: Who is pictured on the label of Sam Adams beer?
Answer: Paul Revere

Again, these are not Bostonians themselves!!

How about a little Bostonian accents class/quiz? You could go to the thread on Bostonian accents and give them some pointers for their new location and understanding the natives…

^^^

Oh my Gawd, that’s a wicked good idear.

I would get started on some questions but I am making chowda.

Pizzagirl: We know these guests are not Bostonians. Real Bostonians would be making fun at how the rest of the world doesn’t talk like us…
