Boston summer sublets... MIT frat feedback?

Another summer… another Boston summer job for DS. He’d like to be near the Red Line, ideally with a group of f his college pals (he’s abroad this semester). Most sublets seem to be for one (occasionally two), mixed in with existing residents.

I suggested MIT frat house summer rental. Any feedback from my trusted Parent Cafe advisors?

Fyi - here is a 2013 thread with various other options if others are looking for Boston summer options.

D used this housing option while staying in Boston over two summers for internships. It was cheap, convenient, and close to everything. Her major suggestion: try to get a place with a working AC. Summers in Boston can get hot and muggy! Your S needs to decide quickly what he wants to do, because at least in my D’s experience, by April the pickings became very slim. Good luck to him!

I lived in an MIT frat a couple of summers, but that was back in the 70s. It was fun. :)

My D lived in an MIT frat the summer of 2012. It was inexpensive (relatively) and close to transportation. The house also threw a really fun 4th of July party.

Thanks for the quick feedback and the good reminder about AC.

Yes… time is a-wasting. I suggested he just book a room a few months ago, but he had high hopes for finding a place with friends. Last summer he arranged Craigslist sublet for 3 (in a place that usually houses 2), but he did most of the legwork. That’s not possible from 10,000 miles away. I’m afraid his friends don’t realize they need to get something booked soon.

Yes, D was excited about being able to see fireworks from the rooftop of the frat. Can they all try to stay in the same frat?

The dream is that 3 or 4 (or more) college buddies can stay at the same frat or sublet apartment. I suspect it’s too late to arrange that, but we’ll see.
