I noticed there wasn’t a forum for BU RISE discussion for 2025 so here it is.
Thanks for starting this. My junior applied a few weeks ago to the internship track.
Does anyone know when matching stage information comes? And once you match how likely are you to get internship (asking because I got into another summer program but I need to give my decision before April 15th).
My kid got in. Received admission notice about 30 min ago!
Internship or practicum?
Do you mind sharing any stats? Daughter waiting for internship track in public health.
Practicum in Computational Neurobiology
Very competitive public high school in bay area
Unweighted GPA 4.0 with A+ in almost all STEM classes
SAT 1580, PSAT 1520
COSMOS (biophysics and robotics) 2024
High School Engineering Program at Berkeley
Local IT company internship (AI) for a year and half
Coding clubs and competition
Physics club and F=ma
SciOly team
Wow!! Congrats well deserved and amazing stats. My daughter is hoping for public health internship which is not out yet so fingers crossed. She is 3.97/4.0 gpa uw (one A-) 1550 SAT (790 math) and 1520 PSAT. She’s advanced in math but her school limits AP sciences to senior year. Depends on what they are looking for as she is a bit policy driven.
So will yours do Rise as I’m sure they applied to other programs too???!?! Congrats again!!
Computational Bio has always been her passion and dream. And she also loves to experience what Boston has to offer. Sure it is very different from bay area. So she is looking forward to enjoying RISE and everything Boston!
Awesome!! She will love it here. So exciting!!
Thank you! My daughter got quite a few Scholastics gold keys and silver keys in critical writing, flash stories, poems, and memoir over the past few years. I read her essays for RISE and I really think she expressed her passion, her curiosity and persistence in academic endeavors very well. When all stats look so similar nowadays, I think quality of essays really makes a world of difference.
Decisions came out I got rejected not sure why.
I was advanced to the matching phase for organic chemistry. I know this has been asked numerous times, but I’m very eager to know what the likelihood of being matched is once one has advanced as I have other programs I need to commit to soon.
Wait I didn’t know that they did matching phase yet, I applied to intership and it said results are in mid April. How is everyone getting results so fast?
send your stats and extracurriculars. I was rejected too though I tried relly hard on my essays and thought I had good ECs. I’m not sure but all my friends were rejected too, so I guess it’s extra competitive this year? I’m hoping on SSP and Garcia now, wondering if I should apply to UF(florida) SSTP
Applied for Math + Stats.
Had 2x AIME qualifier (once with distinction and highest scorer at a competitive high school, usually send at least one USA(J)MO qualifier per year), Stanford Math Tournament HM, Berkeley Math Tournament HM, 3rd place at Mu Alpha Theta States, COMC Distinction (Top 25 percent internationally).
I mentioned independent research about Phishing URLs I was working on using Machine Learning and state and national nonprofit leadership positions. I focused my essays on this and the intersection of Machine Learning and Cryptography (which I took a course at UC San Diego over the summer).
yea idk how they decide this stuff. That’s a lot of competitions and math things, which is very good so if you were focused on math or machine learning that would be a huge plus. I had UW 4.0 and W 4.3, research at local university involving VR and medicine, robotics(got to worlds), 35 ACT, self focusd3D printing and 3D modeling projects and more. I focused my essays a lot on mechanical engineering and thought they were good and that it showed my personality but I guess it’s not good enough. Are you applying to SSP or Garcia or other summer programs too or just RISE?
No I wanted to but I didn’t get the chance to apply. I’m primarily focusing on research programs in Washington right now for CS/Engineering. I applied for Wolfram Research Program (got in), HSMC (Deferred), SuMAC (yet to get decision but HSMC and SuMAC letter of rec written by same person), and RISE (rejected)
I also wanted to ask, how did you get research at a local university. I cold emailed ~50 local professors and got 4 positive responses and one even offered me a position but due to a PhD student joining a day before me, I wasn’t able to get the position. For the other 3 I didn’t know what to do and bombed my explanation of my ML model for one, another if contacted her a month before I would’ve gotten something, and I have my 4th interview on Friday.
Hello, have you received a match yet?
