In terms of overall prestige, and ONLY in terms of overall prestige (in other words, if you had literally ZERO preference on location, campus size, price/cost, etc.), which university is “better”, like, in terms of the overall education, reputation, and name of the school. Boston University, or all the UCs (UCM, UCR, UCSC, UCSB, UCD, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB)?

Well you can’t really lump all the UC’s together as there are huge differences. UC Santa Cruz is not on the same level as Berkeley, for example. I would say that UC BERKELEY, LA, SD, and possibly UCI are better than BU.

Right, I was asking individually, obviously Berkeley and LA are on the top with SD close. Would you agree with saying that BU > UCM, UCR, UCSC, and BU < The rest?

Yes I would agree with that. UCSC does not have a good academic reputation, UCM is a very young school that needs time to develop into a top Uni. UCR also has a shaky reputation far from that of BU

Thanks, so I might actually be in a position where I would have to choose between those schools. And if the only factors are just overall prestige, and the name/overall reputation, you would say that it’s wise to choose Berkeley, LA, San Diego, Davis, Irvine, and SB over BU, right?

Well I forgot to comment on Davis and UCSB. Davis has a good academic record and I have heard that it is a nice, mellow college town. It is primarily known for medical studies. UCSB is not bad in terms of academics but it is known as a party school because most students live off campus. I’m not sure what your major is so I can’t really say what the best choice is. For medical, Davis, Berkeley, LA, UCI, and UCSD are all good choices. Berkeley has a powerhouse business school in Haas which is undergraduate as well as graduate. UCLA has a good business school as well with Anderson (grad). Berkeley takes the cake with engineering (mechanical and electrical). And UCLA is good in law and aerospace engineering. I honestly do not know much about BU because I am not considering Massachusetts for undergrad. I have only heard that it is a good school. Keep in mind that despite their great academics, the UCs are notorious for having intense competition. People often get GPAs lower than they expected, and they do not get into their desired grad school as a result. However, it is not impossible.
