Both want to go to Vandy?

My friend and I both say Vanderbilt is our first choice. With the extremely competitive selection, I am really scared that he will get accepted and I wont. We are both tied for second in our class with similar test scores. Any advice on what I should do if this happens? Thank you!

What can you do other than be happy for him and move on?

Don’t let other people get in the way of your future. I mean it. It might sound selfish, but it’s essential on you being the best person you can be.

Don’t worry about him. He’s only one other applicant out of the thousands that are desperately trying to get into schools like Vanderbilt. If you two both have credible reputations, and can show that you are serious about higher education, especially with the resources Vandy can give you, you should both hypothetically make it. If only one of you makes it, tough. But it doesn’t mean you are in a position of inferiority/superiority. It just means that the university doesn’t believe you are the right match, and that you should be somewhere else that best suites you.

Here are some options:

1) both of you apply at the same time and if he gets in, accept it and feel happy for him. This can be really hard, but it’s life man.
2) agree to play a game of luck. Luckier person does ED1, the other ED2. Then you won’t have ro be worried that your applications will be compared. And you can both still reap the ED advantage. Although one has to wait a bit longer for the results.
3) both of you don’t apply to vandy. Hey, remember A Beautiful Mind? Nobody went for the prettiest girl so they could all score. But this is not recommended because you might regret not applying to vandy.
