My school displays the numerical value of our grades. Do you think a bunch of low A’s, especially in a subject I’m supposed to be good at, is bad? My grades were pretty much in the range of 90-93, but our school counts all A’s as 4.0, so my GPA didn’t get hit.
Also, i got 3 Bs with a gpa of 3.9. should i be okay for HYPSM+?

Where do you hope to attend? There are certainly many very good universities (the vast majority of the 4,000 or so schools in the US) that you can attend with a lot of low A’s in high school.
HYPSM would be unlikely even with high A’s unless you have a “hook”. You can apply to a couple of them if you want, but you should put significant effort into considering schools that are more likely.
@DadTwoGirls so would you say my 3.9 GPA with some low As and 34 ACT makes me uncompetitive for HYPSM? i also have USACO platinum if that counts as a hook, which I suppose is pretty prestigious (~150 others in the US)
USACO helps a lot and changes things up
It’s not that a 3.9 GPA and a 34 ACT is not competitive. It is that you are competing alongside side thousands of equally and more competitive students for a limited number of spaces.
Qualified for admission and being selected for admission are two very different things.
@KKmama so what you mean is that GPA and ACT will not be the reason why I get rejected? also, im asian male FWIW.
There are simply too many qualified applicants for anyone to feel certain of acceptance. Apply but also apply to schools that you are more likely to be accepted.
@KKmama I applied a lot of schools, so hopefully I get into at least one of them Thanks for your help!
