Bowdoin summer festival question

Does anyone know when Bowdoin typically sends out acceptance notifications? There was no date for that on the application. The application deadlines were Jan 15 ED and Feb 10. Probably a bit early for them to release yet but it’s tricky when you’re dealing with multiple festivals…!

In the past they have notified at different times and not all at once. There seems to be a sort of rolling admissions depending upon who has accepted and which studios are full.

We haven’t heard anything yet. Two other festivals my musician applied to are supposed to start notifying around Mar. 1st, but they had later application dates. Then there are a few festivals that are still pre-deadline.

You can sometimes ask for an extension if you’re being asked for a decision. We were granted an extension by a festival last year while trying to decide between two.

I went ahead and contacted them. They are notifying week of March 4th. Might be doing some EDs by Feb 29. So not too much longer now!

That is annoyingly late. We have three other programs who want a decision by 3/1. Ugh.

The email I got was actually a little contradictory. It said both next week and week of March 4th. Then something about EDs on 29th (maybe.) So… perhpas some people will hear next week?

One of the programs my son applied to notifies by March 15th. Another one is due March 1st with notification sometime after…

Have you guys heard anything yet? My kid is set on going to a different program during the dates of 2nd session (deposit paid several weeks ago) but would still go to Bowdoin if he was offered a spot first session and honestly would consider losing deposit to other festival to attend 2nd session dependent on who’s studio. I don’t want to bother the Bowdoin office because our situation is not time sensitive but very curious if anyone has been notified yes or no yet?

Hearing Bowdoin will be out later this week.

Hi I just saw this question. My daughter applied late to Bowdoin (piano and violin) and was rejected. It was kind of odd because she was accepted at BUTI. We got the rejection notice on Feb 29th. I had requested an early decision because of the BUTI acceptance. She is doing piano at BUTI but is also waitlisted there for violin currently.

Isn’t BUTI 18 and under while Bowdoin also includes college age? If so, that could make Bowdoin harder to get into for a high school age musician regardless of ability.

I can’t remember how old your daughter is, but everybody I know below a certain age/grade got either rejected or waitlisted at Bowdoin this year (and were notified much earlier, all as a group). My daughter got spots almost everywhere else, including BUTI YAO, and got rejected from Bowdoin. Other people we know who are young and true prodigies got rejected or waitlisted from Bowdoin. Apparently they don’t want young kids anymore. We were actually warned about this a month beforehand (wish I knew before we applied) by faculty, so I was not all that surprised.

I knew that last year quite a number of talented 14 years old got rejected from Bowdoin.

Yes, I think that was part of the issue. My daughter is on the younger side (14) but also, we applied very late. I think it definitely helps to apply as early as possible to these programs, especially the more competitive ones.

Oh, interesting. My daughter is 14 and yes, we were notified on Feb 29. Good to know on the age. Do you think not worth applying unless college age there? You would think if that was the case, they would just change the age range on their web site?

I agree – they really should give more guidance on this. I know a number of 16-18yo accepted, so they are still taking some pre-college kids, just not the 14-year-olds it seems!
