Can anyone tell me more about the school? I’ve been accepted with a full ride scholarship. I don’t know much about the school though. And because BSU isn’t a choice on the alphabetical list of colleges, its hard to get more information.

Have you visited Bowie State? I see from another thread that you also have been accepted at Towson and UMBC. Take a look at the financial aid packages that they offered you. How hard would it be for you to make up the difference in cost? Do you like either of them better than Bowie State? If all else is equal, going to Bowie State will save you a bunch of money. Even if you decide to transfer out to Towson or UMBC after a year or two, you still might come out ahead.

UMBC is the best of those three. If you live in Maryland, you can drive to Bowie State and see it. What you see is what you get – not a whole lot of CCers at Bowie State.

Happymom, I was thinking about maybe transferring. Or just going for the full 4 years, especially because they’re paying for everything. I just wish I had more information about the school. I guess I’ll just have to take a tour. I was accepted to my first choice, UMD and their Honors College, but they gave me nothing but loans and work study. So that’s pretty much out of the question now. But thanks!
:)

Personally, I think that Bowie State for free if that includes housing and meals would be better than your local community college. After you have been there a while, you may decide to stay for all four years! You won’t have to be commuting to and from campus several times a week. Happykid is studying at Montgomery College, but it is only about 20 minutes away by city bus (free for MC students), and most days she can get a lift with Happydad on the way to and from work. If we lived farther away, the commute would be a lot tougher.

Lastly, did you see Michelle Singletary’s column in yesterday’s Washington Post (Finance Section)? She has been writing about paying for college recently.
