oldmom4896, I bet you didn’t freak out about being old in front of your daughter just before she left for college, though.

That scene really lowered my opinion of the Patricia Arquette character. One simply doesn’t do that.

I enjoyed the movie, although mostly for the backstory of how it was filmed.

No but I didn’t marry 3 drunks either. I also didn’t become a mother at age 23. On the other hand I am not likely to be lucky enough to be a helpful grandmother since I am 66 years old now. It is a story of imperfect people, just like real life.

Someone on the parents of class of 2014 thread posted that her daughter’s roommate’s parents went through all of her daughter’s stuff when roommate moved in. I wouldn’t do that either! (And fortunately neither did my daughter’s roommate’s parents!)

Thought I would bump this because Boyhood won Best Picture at the Golden Globes! And Best Director and Best Supporting Actress. Sooo happy.
I’ve seen quite a few of the buzzed-about movies this year, and this is still one of my favorites. It seems to be hit or miss for people, though. H has not seen it, and now that it’s out on HBO, I want to watch it again with him.
I thought it might seem to long - and I certainly worried dh wouldn’t like it since mostly he’s interested in the sci fi/comic book movies, but he loved it too.
What a lifetime achievement, imo Golden Globes or Emmy’s aside. How could anything possibly overshadow this film? So glad it won.
I’m hoping that it is still in or returns to theaters with the win. I missed it but it sounds great!
The cast has been doing a second round of press. I assumed it was to gather support for the Oscar voting, but I’m thinking that with the GG wins it’ll be back in theaters.
I stand corrected. Boyhood is not out on HBO now. I could swear that H found it there on their menu last night.
We rented it from Red Box.
Boyhood and Grand Budapest Hotel are onDemand on Comcast…
Yes, but I thought I saw Boyhood free on HBO last night; and I was wrong about that.
It was one of the options on the United video – you could choose it for your overseas flight. I passed on it, but if you have an upcoming flight you might see if it’s on the menu.
Our little family of 4 watched it together last night. We have a son and a daughter. One is a senior in HS the other a freshman in college. It was a good watch for us with son’s winter break coming to and end. I feel like the movie is a must-see, although I have some criticisms my family don’t share. I enjoyed it as I’m sure most ppl will. It is being re released in theaters but it has a long run time, 1.5 hrs I think. So don’t buy soda, but here’s a tip, if you have to leave to pee, you won’t miss much. Meaning, the pace is pretty slow. If you like action and “drama” there isn’t much.
I think you mean 2 1/2 hours. It was long and I was glad to watch it at home and take a break.
I really enjoyed Boyhood, but I was blown away by The Theory of Everything, which I just saw in the theater this week.
The lead is amazing. I didn’t know anything about this actor before I saw this picture, but what a performance from such a young man. I also hadn’t realized that he won a Golden Globe for his role, but I definitely get why.
I liked it, but thought it dragged towards the end. It was filmed mostly in Austin, my hometown, so that was a plus! Made me homesick. I agree that the young actor was amazing. Wow!
Now that my oldest kid’s freshman year is nearly over, I finally felt in a good place to watch it. And iTunes had it as their 99 cent rental of the week, so I downloaded it and watched it on my iPad.
Rarely does a film live up to my very high expectations, but I just loved everything about it. It hit so close to home for me emotionally even though the circumstances are very different than anything I’ve personally experienced. I only hope my sons love it as much as I did when they finally get around to watching it.
Like a knife in my heart that he didn’t win Best Director. So innovative.
