For those not aware, boysx3 suffered a massive stroke last September - was in a coma and near death for months - underwent numerous surgeries - and then spent months in rehab re-learning every basic skill that we take for granted. Her recovery is nothing short of miraculous - even her neuro-surgeon says so!
Truly an amazing story.
I had no idea. Thanks for letting us know.
Welcome back!
We need to get together IRL.
(Thanks for re-opening this thread, mods).
I had no idea but welcome back and best wishes for continued good health.
So glad to hear about your good news!!!
Truly a miracle!!!
So happy that you’re back (and so happy that the mods have recognized that this is exactly the kind of post that makes CC a great community)!
Welcome back!! I’ve never met you, but I love stories like this. As an occupational therapist, I truly appreciate all of the hard work you’ve put in. Congratulations.
That’s an incredible story. Thanks for filling us in, @rockvillemom, and redoubled congratulations, @boysx3 !
I hadn’t been aware of boysx3’s health challenges either, Rockvillemom, but reading of her remarkable recovery here simply warms my heart. I’m so very happy for her and her loved ones, who must be overflowing with joy and thankfulness. Given the gravity of some of the issues we tackle on these forums, threads that celebrate such deserved triumphs are like medicine to the souls of us CC denizens. Stay well, boysx3! May life going forward bring nothing but happiness!
Glad to see you back and so happy for your amazing recovery! That’s some good news!
I am SOO happy you are back and recovering. Such amazing news! And I’m glad the moderators allowed this thread. I was responding the other day just as it locked!! Continued good health and happiness to you and your entire family.
So happy to hear the good news, boysX3! Blessings to you, your family, and your medical team.
Sincere apologies to all who didn’t know boysx3 has been ill.
I have met her several times IRL and was checking her CB page that her DH was maintaining, but her family wanted some level of privacy and didn’t want the link widely distributed. I posted limited updates on the 2009 HS parents and Jewish B students threads, as I knew she spent a lot of time there giving her wonderful wise advice, but I didn’t (and still don’t) know of everyone with whom she was close. Clearly there are many of you!
I have been spending time with her one day a week and on the phone about every other day. She dictated the first post to me on Tuesday and I typed it from her computer at her house. Writing skills are still a work in progress because she has partial loss of vision due to the stroke.
OTOH, she is able to fully engage in conversation and can read large print, and will happily read your posts. For now, this will probably be the main thread she reads. We hope is that getting back on CC will help her brain relearn some of these computer skills.
Her recovery has far, far exceeded everyone’s expectations, but she still has more work towards recovery and establishing a new normal. You all are the best medicine, and she has told me many times how much she values this community. Thanks to the mods for reopening this thread. This kind of caring community is why we stick around here.
With love and thankfulness,
CD
Well then, boysX3! I will spend some time just chatting with you as you know how happy I am for your and your family already. I agree a big thanks to you medical team also.
How is your weather? Ours is so not happy with way more heat, 104 on our deck yesterday, and many in Portland do not even have air conditioniong. We do as I hate heat and yet it is hard to keep our house cool with South facing windows. We have a ceiling fan going in our Master bedroom this week. I waited until our heat will break as I cannot imagine having someone in our attic when it is over 100. I think the electircian appreciated this.
CD, happy you have been there.
Boysx3, so glad to hear of your recovery! It is a long and frustrating process to get over such a major ordeal. CD and I met last spring in DC, and I wish you could have been there with us. My D was living there for a time, though is now back home for grad school.
Welcome back!
To my dear friend:
Not to be repetitive but the first time I heard your voice again I cried. To those who don’t know boys3…she is an amazing woman with an incredible family who supported her every day.
You’re back!
I hadn’t known what happened, but let me add my ecstatic congratulations for your recovery! What a story! I’m sorry to hear you’ve been ill, but so glad that learning it came with the good news of how well you’re doing!
Welcome back!
