In response to the “I wish werent Asian” thread. There is no reason to reject your heritage it is something to be proud of. So I will start.

I am Greek and Italian. We were a highly advanced civilization in the ancient world. Developed the earliest form of democracy and were the leaders of the ancient world with one of the greatest empires in history. But I am sure all u CCers are aware of this. But thats why we are just bragging. :)

Only losers with no accomplishments of their own leech off the accomplishments of people who died long time ago. There’s a reason why the poor and stupid tend to be more bigoted than the affluent and intelligent.

I’m Chinese American, my compatriots hailed directly from the celestial kingdom. Having invented firecracker for our grandparents’ bday party, we hauled our asses to build the transcontinental railroad; later, mutilated by angry irished men, banished, but sexy back in 1942. With a dozen Nobel prize winners, we can be found in literally every laboratory. We fought among the ranks of the brave in World War 2, contributed to the technological advancement of Uncle Sam, and populated every college campuses with a rather scary proportion to the hysterias of the nativists.

Being proud is a good thing; many studies have found that people are perceived better when they have been made to feel proud about something, and their hormones are in better proportions.

Apart from that, allow me to cast some polite censure. You didn’t build Greek or Italian civilization. Had you done so, you would be dead.
In the name of useful pride, think more along this line: I’m proud that I’m glorious. I’m industrious. I’m ambitious. I’m zealous. I’m smart. I’m kind. I pretend to be very humble. I remained religious far longer than my parents, because I never stopped worshipping myself. That’s some healthy pride for you.
But please don’t try to steal the accomplishments of people who you never helped. Biological relations are hardly important even across one generation (I in particular would have planned to excommunicate my mom if she didn’t support gay marriage); it is ridiculous to fathom ancestry or family as a source of pride, and it would be more stable to be proud that the sky is orange - speaking from experience. Consider whether you would accept ancestral shame…
