Brag about your "lesser known" school!

It is claimed that UNH is underrated. And, that UNH should be on list. UNH, like many other schools mentioned, may be underrated. But, the thread involves “lesser known.” The terms are not synonymous. And, for that reason UNH not on list.

Humboldt was used by others for their lists. My list incorporates schools mentioned in comments. Comments exist and Humboldt’s omission is oversight.

walsh university in north canton ohio

Woo hoo! GO CAVS!

screw Ivys!

Can anyone talk about Southwestern? We toured today and loved it.

Son visited 8 schools and Southwestern was his favorite.

We loved Southwestern as well. There was such a nice feeling about it and they seem so engaged in whatever they’re doing.

I graduated from Southwestern mumble-something years ago and had a great experience, but neither of my kids were interested - too familiar. Glad to see the interest!

Wow, four S’western connections in a row. Seems like the school should be included on the college visits forum.

My alma mater doesn’t get any love (that I’ve seen) around CC- Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. Amazing endowment (especially considering the small student body), amazing faculty, beautiful campus. I would have never considered going there, but a professor at a cc where I was taking a summer class recommended it and I fell in love. The campus is beautiful, and ASC participates in the Atlanta University group so you can take classes and use the libraries at Emory, GA Tech, et cetera. Fun traditions, too.

It is great to see this thread continuing so well.
Thanks, posters, for sharing this very helpful info on some wonderful schools!

if you are looking for a great business school, nestled in a gorgeous New England suburb (20 minutes from Boston) then I would consider Babson College in Wellesley, MA. Its has seen a lot more publicity in the past few years for its entrepreneurial programs and in September of 2007 Newsweek named Babson “Hottest Business School in the U.S.”. It is a tough school to get into, and the workload at the school is also difficult, but I have had professors who have run succesful businesses all while teaching us their tricks of the trade. The networking you do at Babson will ensure success in a business career.

I’m going into my senior year there, and I cannot wait to go back. It has been such a great experience thus far, and I’m looking forward to finishing my college education with a degree from such a great little school!

Queens University of Charlotte climbed three positions to the number 20 spot among private master’s universities in the South, according to the 2009 U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges list. Queens was the second highest ranking private university in North Carolina in this category, behind only Elon, and was recognized as a great value, earning a #11 ranking in the publication’s Southern Masters’ “Great Schools, Great Prices” category.

Queens Rocks!

Yes, I have heard wonderful things about Queens! I know someone who transferred there from a state school that she did not like, and is very happy at Queens. Her family relocated to NC, which might have been part of the decision to transfer initially.

Just checked out Queen’s website. It looks like a beautiful campus.

Does anyone want to add comments about Mills College? It was mentioned but didn’t have any details.

Newest List – 234 colleges

Recently, I sent parents of student with middle SAT scores to this site. They relayed questions to college counselor in regard to 5-8 of them. Poor counselor was stumped, but reached out to learn about the schools. I refer many people to this thread when their child is less than “top percentile” candidate – and they are always thrilled to see so many wonderful institutions where professors teach to teach.

bumping for those still currently looking for/at schools!!!

I can’t believe that nobody’s mentioned Goucher yet. : ( I’m not visiting until April, but it seems like a really fantastic school for weirdos like me.

DePauw is fantastic, too. Nobody’s ever heard of it, but they have a high rate of grads who go onto high-paying jobs, and this year’s freshman class has something like three 35 ACT scorers, eight Eagle scouts, a beauty queen, etc…it’s something special.

Great thread, although getting a bit unwieldy…

Let me second Arcadia (formerly Beaver) in PA - great programs, esp. international.

Columbia College Chicago - not for everyone, but for the creative student looking for cutting edge arts education in an urban setting, it’s fantastic.

I may have posted on this thread already, but take a look at Grand Valley State in Michigan. Beautiful school, good honors college and facilities, excellent Division 2 football team, ranked 10th in the country for percentage of students that study abroad.

If you have better than a 26 on your ACT, you will qualify for merit aid.
