As the title shows, I have received undergraduate offers from these two schools and my graduation plan is to apply to a law school. Which school is more suitable? Hope everyone shares their ideas, thank you very much!
It is very urgent and need to make an immediate decision. Hope to receive your suggestion. Thank you very much!
They are both good. You can go to law school from anywhere, with a high GPA and high MCAT, but I think that Brandeis is a bit better.
Thanks a lot for your quick input! Would you pls tell me more, why Brandeis is better? Thanks again!
proximity to a major city, academic environment, good writing program (which you’ll need for law school), it’s kind of like a little Ivy.
Got it, thanks!
I consider these colleges more or less academic peers. Brandeis sends a lot of kids to law schools, but that is a double-edged sword as you are going to be facing a lot of internal competition. Personally I would suggest just picking wherever you think you would be happiest and most likely to thrive generally.
Neither school is better. Your post-graduation success will depend more on what YOU accomplish during college rather than which one of these fine schools you choose to attend. Assuming they are both affordable, choose the school that feels right to you.
Thank you for your suggestion! According to my understanding, applying to a law school should not only involve competition within school itself. If the competition within the school is intense, does it mean that the study atmosphere is good and the competition outside the school will be strong?
Where you can get a higher college GPA (as recalculated by the LSAC method).
Where you will spend less money in order to have more available for expensive law school so that you will have less debt at the end of law school.
So if there are a lot of other people gunning for top law schools at your college, they may be competing to get the best grades in the popular pre-law majors, schmoozing some of the same professors to try to get recommendations, maybe interviewing for some of the same internships, and so on. That doesn’t mean you should avoid such colleges, just keep it in mind when you see a school like Brandeis placing a lot of people into law schools.
You can get into a good law school from either of these because you essentially need a high GPA and a good LSAT score. The real question is which of the school do you prefer as far as fit? They are very different in terms of location and culture. Have you had a chance to visit either one or both?
Are both of them equally affordable? Law school is expensive and that’s something to consider.
Also, there’s no such thing as a pre-law major. You can major in any subject that interests you. There are no prerequisite courses for law school. I’d also point out that law school allows you to major in pretty much whatever you want. There’s no benefit to being a political science or government major over an art history major or an anthropology major. In fact, majoring in something other than political science might give the admissions people something interesting to read about.
Thanks your input!
Got it, thanks a lot!
Got it! Thanks a lot!
They’re both excellent.
So, the 2 key criteria become
- is one more affordable than the other? If so, pick that one
- have you visited both? If so, go with your gut.
What @NiceUnparticularMan said, although I didn’t really love navigating the Brandeis campus.
Thanks a lot for your input!
Thanks your information!
My daughter is a freshman at Brandeis and absolutely loves it. Mostly it’s just that she was able to meet wonderful friends and feel really comfortable there from day 1. She likes that the kids are serious about academics, but the vibe is collaborate, not competitive. Socially, there’s very little fraternity life or parties (a plus for her, don’t know if it would be for you) and instead on weekend nights the kids go into Boston or Waltham on the Brandeis shuttle. Agree with other posters that you have to choose the school which feels right for you, both will be great academically.
