Breakaway!

I posted this since I was curious as to how many would recognize the title and look. :)

What do you guys think of the 2010 FRC Challenge Breakaway?

It’s so exciting! (Yet so complicated too–so many different minuscule penalty details, etc.)

My interpretation: It’s like soccer for robots, plus an aerial return system, one foot high obstacles that may flip you over, and and interesting gymnastics feat to be performed in the final 20 seconds.

Some issues so far though: the provided CAD drawings of the game field components aren’t very detailed in dimensioning…

Thoughts? Happiness? Haagen-Daz. (If you watched kickoff, you might’ve laughed at that). :P

So far, I LOVE it. I like that there are multiple ways of scoring. The game is really audience-friendly, as is the scoring. All of the field elements are easy to get ahold of… unlike Orbit Balls shudder.

I’m personally looking forward to seeing some hanging bots.

Did you hear Woodie’s speech? 10% of last year’s MIT freshman class were FIRST alumni- how cool!

Anyway, I think this game is a gem. I <3 the GDC!

Ps. I saw the Haagen-Daz! XD

Ps. I’m not too thrilled with all of the penalty rules. >.>

I know! Hanging bots…my whole team was laughing so hard at the idea, so random! Yet then again one of the new members of the GDC is from Circus Soleil…

I heard Woodie’s speech–that is really cool. Maybe, if I get in next year (I’m still a junior) then I will be surrounded by amazing FIRST alumni who will understand all of my FRC inside jokes. :)

The penalty rules seem pretty harsh…there’s the 5 second blocking rule, the human player timing rule, the 2 second rule for something else…I wonder how they will regulate all of this.

Do you know what the height is for the max height side of the return system? I’ve gone through all the drawings and can’t find it…

What team are you with? Maybe I will run into you some point this season?

Any other CC FIRSTers? I thought this would be popular on the MIT thread…oh well I guess everyone is busy scouting Chief Delphi anyway. :)

As a Team 1073 alumnus/mentor emeritus, and current MIT Admissions Officer, and Westwind/Kickoff attendee (representing MIT), I can say in several capacities that this year’s game rocks and I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Hey neon -

you inspired me ;)

Nice blogpost! I commented earlier (username=makesense). This is going to be such an awesome season (and already has been, for the however many 18? hours my team has put in). :)

Now waiting on Q/A to figure out the challenge legality of our many ideas for the bot…
