Bunsen, I think that should be Germany and London. Thanks to truly very inexpensive flights between London and many European cities, my daughter would routinely text, “flying to Berlin/Dublin/Edinburgh this weekend.” She had a great time; H (who is addicted to those flight-tracker websites), not so much.
@busdriver11 Immigrants are not causing the Brits’ (or our) economic stagnation. But they are being blamed by demagogues, and people are believing it.
'But is it racist and scapegoating to want to control your countries immigration policies?
that’s how it starts…Someone else, usually "outsiders- are ALWAYS at fault for a nations troubles…
"Is that the same thing as rounding up millions of people and executing them? "
that’s how it ends…
read your 20th century history…
sheesh…

That seems like quite a generalization.
You actually think the Brits are going to round up the all the immigrants and kill them?
No, not as an official action, though scapegoating will harm immigrants in a direct way. But it is one more step toward something terrible.
The real point is that British voters missed the point, and if they think this will make their lives better, they’re in for a very nasty surprise.
“@busdriver11 Immigrants are not causing the Brits’ (or our) economic stagnation. But they are being blamed by demagogues, and people are believing it.”
Demagogues seem pretty popular these days, sadly.
But I doubt that over half the population is controlled by demagogues. There may be some very valid reasons that people don’t want to stay in the EU. Not everyone has joined the EU, and not everyone will stay in. It’s not the end of the world.
However, it might feel like that tomorrow, if you watch your investment accounts!
Marie Le Pen (very right wing) has just called for a referendum on France leaving the EU
no, but accusing immigrants of being the cause of a countries economic problems, that were in fact, a result of terrible decisions made by bankers in the prior decade , is the first step down the rabbit hole…
Remember- Under the EU- Europe, has had DECADES of PEACE.
That was not the case in the prior 6 centuries of European history…
Going to bed- places a limit buy order on AMZN…
Hope to do as well as I did with Apple in March of 2009…
No one here faults elite universities for carefully selecting whom they admit. So why are people here faulting Britain for the same.
The UK has a points-based immigration system that favors investors & skilled labor. There’s NO racial component to it. It’s rational for its people to not want immigrants & refugees who don’t meet their points criteria.
Immigrants were cast as Other. The campaign was Us vs Them. Sound familiar?
It seems like a revolt against in controlled cheap labor by English working people.

Next Scotland to leave United Kingdom?
The EU is a bureaucratic nightmare. What is it 26 countries. A recent article posted that there are 10,000 EU employees that make more than the British Prime Minister.
We lived in England in the late 1990’s and there was a growing disagreement with some of the EU’s mandates.
Well, the EU has only been around since 1993. They survived before it, and they will survive after.
Now that the vote is in, here is a thread to discuss the impact. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1900574-brexit-appoved-now-what.html Closing this one. I will move comments already made about the impact to the new thread.
