Not a bad hire. I know a lot of Domers wanted Stoops or Meyer, but I think Kelly can turn things around…although I said the same thing about Charlie.

I’m really happy that ND got Brian Kelly. When he coached at central michigan he really turned their program around and won games. Hopefully he’ll do the same at ND!

And anything is a step up from Charlie Weis, so I’m happy.

I suspect it is all about the money–and right now with the sting of Weis’ payout at hand, a final payment just made this year to Willingham and the shape of our economy/stock market for the last couple of years, ND may not have been able to afford a Stoops or Meyer. I believe that for the right price either would have taken the job–it happened at Alabama with Saban. It is a shame that things have been handled in this manner regardless of how much money ND supposedly has in its coffers. I sincerely hope that with Kelly’s hiring there will be NO mindless contract extensions made or at the very least have the ones responsible for those contract extensions personally guarantee them this time around; perhaps a lesson learned? I do wish Coach Kelly the best of luck and who knows, perhaps he can swiftly turn this program around and help to make up for the exhorbitant money loss that has occurred with regard to these football coaches.

Lets just say this: Money was not an issue. Trust me, ND has the money to do whatever it wants and football is a high priority. Stoops and Meyer don’t want to enter into the ND scene. Right now there is a lot to fix.

On the other hand, I think Brian Kelly will be a good coach - have to watch how he can recruit nationally, as he never has before, and though he used to coach defense, Cincinnati didn’t have a great defense - look at the Pitt game. Overall, it should be a better season that last year, but please don’t start the BCS bowl chants again - give him a year.
