Bring up CR or take SAT Lit?

I really want to bring up my CR score (which is 640) but I’ll need to take the SAT’s a 4th time, which doesn’t look too great.
Or should I take SAT Lit to make up for the CR score instead?
It might look odd so I’m not sure…

If that’s your CR score after taking 3 SATs, chances are that you won’t improve a whole lot on your 4th SAT.

SAT Lit will be very hard for you if you only have a 640 on CR. It’s a very hard test. I’d recommend finally actually learning the vocab and taking SAT 1 again (a 640 score reveals that you don’t really know vocab).

@shalooky, I know that my CR score has barely moved so I think taking the SAT’s for the fourth time would be a waste of my time. Ty for making me realize that.

@marvin, my main problem in CR was breaking down passages. I knew the vocab and did tests every day for a very long time. But I recently talked to an English teacher, who suggested reading NYTimes Opinion section and reading other difficult material. I have until Nov to take SAT Lit (not doing ED for anything), which could be enough time to read poems, speeches, newspaper articles, and do practice tests.

Did you get all the sentcoms right, then? Because I almost never see scores below 650 without vocab deficiencies.

On my most recent test, I got 3 questions wrong on the vocab section of the test and 9 wrong in passage-based reading.

Definitely try memorizing more vocab. Vocab not only helped me perfect my sentence completion but so helped me better understand the passages.

3 wrong in vocab could be 40 points. Lock down the vocab.

Just get your SAT I up.

The lit test is VERY difficult, even for people who are really good at CR. Two of my friends had 700+ for CR, and one of them probably had like a 770-780, but they both got 680 and 750 on the lit test. I had a 770 on CR and am averaging 750 on practice tests as well. Don’t expect a superbly high score if you struggle with analyzing text.

Still, if you’re that set on doing the lit test, you need to get used to reading things like The Odyssey and Shakespeare and other weird things from the 1800s. The lit exam is loaded with older excerpts.
