I am currently a master student in Europe. However, I have to go to USA/Canada as early as possible for family reasons. That is I applied to 10 programs (8 PhD, 2 MS) this year; unfortunately, got rejections from all PhD programs, but accepted by both of MS programs: UBC-ECE and JHU-BME. Now, if I want to accept any one of them, I have to leave the current MS at the midway.

The professor of UBC talked with me over mobile (after giving funds), and advised (not forced) to finish the current study first. Additionally, he promised to take me as a PhD student in his group after my MS. In the meantime, JHU BME came in, which I am a great fan of, like many other students. Now, I am gone confused in a triangular problem: UBC PhD next year, JHU BME MSE this year and the family above all.

Could you please suggest me in this situation? Certainly, I cannot expect any suggestions regarding my family, but one thing I can share with you that the earlier I go, the better for family. My ultimate plan is to do PhD.
