<p>Such sad news.</p>
<p>That’s a shocker.</p>
<p>How sad.</p>
<p>The first thing I thought when I saw the picture in the TMZ link was “gosh she’s really really thin”.</p>

<p>My bet is drugs were involved… cocaine is one of the main ways that young people have heart attacks.</p>
<p>Almost every picture I have seen of her she looked thin to me, but I never would have seen this coming. I mean some people are just on the naturally skinny side. Its a shocker to me and especially because she is just a few years older than me.</p>
<p>I’d be willing to bet an eating disorder is the main cause. She’s been frail and bony looking for a long time.</p>
<p>Son of Opie; sometimes people have things like this happen not because of drugs or whatever but because of genes.</p>
<p>My first thought after seeing the TMZ photo was the same as mathgirl.</p>
<p>TMZ article also states:</p>
<p>“Murphy was reportedly fired from last film, “The Caller,” after reports she was problematic on set.”</p>
<p>I am reminded of Karen Carpenter who died at 32 from a cardiac arrest as a complication of anorexia. Of course, that may not be what happened, but it reminds me.</p>
<p>Sometimes it’s genetic- but in Hollywood, it’s much more likely that she had a big ol’ pile of nose candy. And eating disorders won’t help matters.</p>
<p>“Cardiac arrest” just means her heart stopped. It happens with all dead people. The more informative thing will be when they figure out <em>why</em> it stopped.</p>
<p>Cardiac arrest caused by electrolyte imbalance is one way that anorexics can die.</p>
<p>My first thought was also eating disorder.</p>
<p>There have been rumors and reports for many years about her cocaine use.</p>
<p>I say eating disorder. She looked way too thin to be healthy.</p>

<p>I haven’t ever been anorexic, but I did do hair in the era of Studio 54 ( and practically the same atmosphere), my impression is that anorexia is more damaging to the heart than anything but constant cocaine use would be.</p>
<p>I also don’t think that coke, would cause her to be so thin, her face for someone so young is very thin- but in any case, I am very sorry for her friends and family to lose someone so young.</p>
<p>Add to the list of possible causes for Brittany’s cardiac arrest…Type II Diabetes. According to Brittany’s mom, she was diabetic and also taking meds for flu symptoms. Diabetes puts you at higher risk for heart attack in general but if your blood glucose is high, it can also cause weight loss and flu like symptoms such as vomiting. High blood glucose would also explain her being uncooperative or irritable on set.</p>
<p>Toxicology reports won’t come out for four to six weeks but I just thought it should be noted that it could have been her medical condition that was the cause.</p>
<p>Such a loss at such a young age.</p>
<p>Heard that she was a diabetic. Guess that’s an eating disorder of some sort. As a diabetic myself, I know it’s very hard to control your blood sugars if your weight fluctuates at all. (I’m 120lbs, but if I go to 115, I’m much more senstive to meds.) My guess: her weight dropped because she was too busy/distracted to eat well. But she took her ‘usual’ dose of insulin. Collapse. </p>
<p>No one dies of diabetes…it’s all the havoc it plays on your system that can kill you.</p>
