I haven’t seen Broad direct admit stats, or what proportion of the class they fill w/ direct admit (the Broad direct and secondary processes in their current forms are relatively new, within the last five years.) Students do need a 3.5 HS GPA to qualify for direct admit (based on how MSU recalculates GPA, methodology is unaddressed on the website AFAIK.)
Even if one gains direct admit, make sure your S understands the requirements to stay in Broad and move to a major (everyone starts as pre-business, even though the applicant chooses a major when applying.):
