Broadway Revue Question

Some of my guy friends at my school’s unofficial “brother school” are running a Broadway Revue, and auditions are next Tuesday. I have NO idea what to do! Can anyone help me with any suggestions? I am a soprano and I want to sing something familiar but not cliche. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

when audition music choices are pretty open-ended, i like jazz standards-- they’re classy, you can make them your own, and not everyone will choose to go that route. personally that’s what i sing when i’m in my car or home alone. i have a soft spot for old-fashioned musical theatre too. just pick something you love to sing/feel really good about your sound on it. what are you thinking about?

well, i was thinking possibly something from phantom of the opera…or something along the lines of “i could have danced all night” from my fair lady…im not really sure, i want to do something slow (like, not an uptempo dance number) but not too slow (not “till there was you” or something with little variety)…some kind of song similar to “defying gravity” i think is more along the lines of what i’m looking for, ballad-ish but also powerful, with vocal variety…however, i don’t want to do something too overdone, like defying gravity…so, yeah, im still pretty much at a loss
