brochure on communication sciences and disorders

i received a small brochure on this department in the communication school a couple of days ago. i was a little confused because i applied to CAS, not the school of communication, but i read the brochure and the programs mentioned were popular pre-med programs, so i’m guessing that’s why they sent it to me? did anyone else get this and are they also pre-med? i’m a little baffled

thanks

They probably sent it to you since you applied for premed, and that department is popular with the premed major.

For once, Northwestern’s not at the forefront of my mind since I have another evil calculus test tomorrow. For some reason, the calculus teachers are really good at making things ten times more difficult on the tests than what was originally expected so I’d probably better go and either study some more or rest for it.

haha trust me, i know about evil calculus tests… i had another one today… good luck

i got one too… could this be seen as a likely letter? as in, they wouldnt send you mail about programs for once you are in northwestern if you havent been accepted?

EDIT: I am also premed
EDIT EDIT: haha, look, we are both ranis!

hahahaha yeah we are the premed ranis… i was HOPING it could be taken as a likely letter thing cuz nu is my first choice now but i don’t think we can take it as a sure sign because they sent one to me before my school even sent out mid-year reports so i know my decision can’t be completely made yet… i don’t even remember, did NU have a box to check if you were planning to be pre-med?? i don’t think so… but i wrote my essay on why i wanted to go into medicine cuz i had like personal issues that made me want to so they would know anyway… what about you, do you remember checking a pre-med box or something? how would they have known? i don’t remember anything about my college apps…

I was wondering the same thing about whether this can be taken as a liekely letter ( I hope, but dont tihnk so at all).

I applied to CAS, but indicated an itnerest in journalism and submitted osme movie reviews that I had written, and then I got sent about 2 weeks ago a Medill Brochure ( Although If I get in, id much rather switch to communicaitons and do tv/film)

haha yeah… well raniji, what i did was almost apply for the HPME, but then forgot to apply for that app, but i had checked that box… but actually, there might have been a medicine box… i dont remember, i did that app really really fast.

i’m a student at northwestern, and i can tell you that the communication sciences and disorders (csd) program does try and recruit students that are interested in going to medical school. there is no real “premed” major here so some premed students choose csd because they find the medically-oriented programming interesting. also, many wcas students transfer out into other northwestern schools (including the communications school), so it doesn’t surprise me that the csd program is trying to plant a seed in your mind about their major. i am premed myself and am considering switching from wcas to the comm school and double majoring, but we’ll see. if you happen to have any questions about the csd program, i’d be happy to answer them. i’ve researched it pretty well.

There was a pre med box. There was also a business school and a law school box.

so does that mean it is like a likely letter?

haha someone say that it is a likely letter please cuz i’m starting to get really nervous about my college admissions… thanks christina i’ll contact you when <- (hopefully) i get in if i have any questions… i forgot there was a pre med box but if there was, this could always mean they just sent it to everyone who checked the box :frowning: did anyone apply pre med and NOT get a brochure?

p.s. does anyone know nu’s undergrad to med school acceptance rate? i searched online for like an hour and found nothing

christina- what is the best thing about nu’s pre-med program… and what is the worst thing? thanks :)

It is like 88% but take that with a grain of salt. Schools who have like 100% basically only let students who will get in apply. 88% is very good for doing otherwise and is among that of the rest of the top schools. Also, you shouldn’t worry about the number you asked for…acceptance to med school. That means nothing in terms of the quality of med school. If you hav a good GPA etc. you will get into some school so that number is insignificant.
Also…I applied early and got no brochure and checked premed. But then again, I also checked law and business.

wow you checked all three? :-o

maharani, im with you… i want to know whether i can relax about the university or not! maybe we should call?

haha what would we say? “uh…so does getting a brochure mean you like us or do you just send it to all the pre-med applicants…?” hehe

today is senior cut day woohoo  i just told my mom we didn’t have school ;)

hahaha… we dont have a senior cut day here… too bad too.

lol something like that… “im interested in this program, but is there a particular reason it was sent to me” cough cough hint hint… something of the sort…

honestly. im not sure if im interested in the program.

me neither. what major did you apply under? i did sociology

call if you have the guts! i sure don’t

i now think everyone got the brochure. I also got a engineering brochure long long time ago, does it mean anything? prob. not
