broken dorm room phone

I’m so sorry to make this post, but I’ve about given up and thought maybe there’d be suggestions here…

I just moved into a new room on campus, and the phone jack is broken. Facilities has gone home for the weekend and my friends who are still here have no idea how to help. I need to make an international call and can’t use my cell phone, so I’d really like to fix the jack tonight…

The problem is just that the jack itself got loose within the box, and is now floating around in a position such that I can’t get the cord to fit in securely. It’s supposed to be secured at the opening, so I can just click the cord in. How can I get it back in the correct position? Everything I do seems to just push it back in further…

Speak to your RA. There may be some solution to your problem that you haven’t thought of.

At my daughter’s college, for example, it doesn’t matter what physical phone you make a long-distance call from; you have to type in a lot of codes to charge it to your bursar’s bill regardless, and you can do it from any campus phone. If your college has a similar setup, you could make the call from a friend’s room but have the charge billed to you.
