Brother writing a letter to the Adcom

My older brother who applied ED Cornell CAS this year got deferred. As a student who was ranked number one after his freshman year, I joined CC early. Having been on this site for quite some time and having read a plethora of college admissions books such as The Gatekeepers, I advised him to write a letter to Cornell saying he is still devoted to Cornell and that is still his first-choice. He is ranked in the top 10 of his class and has local/state achievements in swimming.

Showing concern for my bro, I, a sophomore, would also like to write a letter to the adcom. I have similar talents to my brother, besides the fact that I am probably more nerdy than him for reading so much college related books and forums. I would also like to apply to Cornell in the future.

I wanted to mention that my brother is truly a gifted person and that he deserves a spot in the college. If anything, I will be the only one to write a letter besides my brother to write to the adcom after his deferral to RD. Would my brother be bombarding the college with too many letters, or should I go ahead and write it in attempts to help him become accepted into his dream school?

I don’t think it’s a particularly good idea. One letter might make him stand out of the crowd a bit more, but two would surely be overkill. I don’t think your opinion (as a brother) really matters that much to an adcom.

Regardless of the situation, be cautious in how you write th ings.
