so yeah. i’m posting this because i’m BORED haha. anyways, my brother is a freshman at BC in the carroll school. he got in EA. he’s home for Christmas break and ALL he talks about is how much he actually HATES BC and that he really wants to transfer to Vanderbilt. i don’t know… he says it’s because he “doesn’t fit in.” my brother is pretty big into sports and he says that their intramurals suck and that so many people at BC are weird ‘tree-huggers.’ he finds it WAY too liberal, especially for a Catholic school. he’s planning on sending transfer apps to Vandy, Michigan, UVA, and Notre Dame. anyways… i don’t know. i still hope i get in! i liked BC when i was there! … but i just thought i would share that haha.

maybe you should go back to the beach

maybe i will. what does that have to do with anything? i like BC and i was just accepted today… i’m simply sharing my brother’s opinion. it’s not that big of a deal.

hey weerez that really wasnt very an open minded thing to say…personally I am a very conservative down to earth small town kinda person who likes nice people…to me thats a really valid concern…i still havent received my letter so I’m not sure whats goin on but her point really makes me think…honestly whether or not I get in I might end up going to Providence college since it seems like so much better of an atmostphere to be in…But i kinda saw a little bit of that when i visted…i dunno how severe it is…but im gonna wait and see if i get in before I get all worried about whether ill be happy there personally…

thank you serrapadre that’s exactly what i was thinking! i always thought BC was a nice, kind-hearted, conservative environment but i guess not when people like weerez are so mean to me haha. he doesn’t know me! oh well anyways… i’ve seen you posting on SMU boards! i got in today… maybe we will end up there haha who knows? i got deferred from Johns Hopkins on friday (my first choice) but i’m over it now… i’m thinking of applying to Vanderbilt for ED2 which is also where my brother really wants to transfer. anyways… i have midterms to study for i’m a big procrastinator!

haha seriously…like BC did seem like that nice, kind-hearted conservative enviornment…at least to a certain extent…but I’ve heard lots of oppinions to the contrary…and yep its definetly nice that we’re at least into SMU and im pretty sure I’ll get into Providence College but BCs still coming. Really the environment is a valid concern…but I think I’d have to visit again in order to really figure things out…personally i hope its not so bad…but i really just hope that the acceptance letter comes soon lol it seems like im the last one =) but people should really take her warning seriously because its a very valid concern. I mean there are some people who like that kind of enviornment…I know I’m definetly not one of them!

in all honesty, to base your choice of college based on one person’s opinions of the atmosphere there (yes, even if its your own brother) is preposterous. with a couple thousand people in each grade, he may have experienced…say…a few hundred in one semester? and how many did he actually get to find out if they were truly ‘tree-huggers’ or not? that’s what i was getting at.

oh and i like how you call me out for not being ‘open minded’ while you went on to affirm a post bashing ‘tree huggers’ and the ‘liberal minded.’ don’t get me wrong. I’m as conservative as they come, but the irony here is pungent.

okay as i’ve stated a few times… i was only repeating my brother’s opinion. i was not in any way bashing ‘tree-huggers.’ i was simply saying that for some people who would prefer to attend a more conservative school, BC may not be for them, which is most likely contrary to what a person would generally think of a Catholic school. therefore, they won’t waste a year there like my brother did. he went in thinking that it would be similar to Notre Dame, a Catholic school that does, in fact, remain extremely conservative. obviously tons of people love BC or they wouldn’t have as many students attending the school and they wouldn’t have such strong continual alumni connections. i would just advise people to definitely visit the school and maybe do an overnite visit if they’re optional there so they can make the decision for themselves.

and what I’M saying is that its illogical to state that BC is filled with ‘tree-huggers’ based on one person’s 4 month opinion. you’re mistaken me if you think i’m defending tree huggers. on the contrary, i’m defending BC against that stigma which you seem to want to place on it. yes, the Jesuit order is naturally known for a liberal take on Catholicism, but deep down there is a strong sense of faith and loyalty to the Pope dating back to the orders inception. and i’m not simply pulling this from no where. I know plenty of current students, alumni, and a few Jesuits who lived there for a time. all i’m saying is that its dangerous to go around throwing around subjective opinions as objective facts for other people to take to heart.

okay cool. get over it… i don’t know you and you don’t know me.

there are a few tree huggers at BC, but I would say that a majority of the student body is moderate to conservative. anyway, i dont like BC that much either and im applying to a few transfer schools…ill probably end up back at BC next year though.

you, oh little babe of the beach, are a failure at logic and/or discourse.

hun, you do realize you’re posting a derogatory comment (even if it’s not from you!) in the BC forum, don’t you? filled with current BC attendees/alumnus and BC-hopefuls? who will, in all probablity, probably be pro-BC and feel unkindly towards such judgments or comments of the sort? (EVEN if it is not you, but come on - do you see you brother lurking here?) and it’s new england… if you plan on coming up here, you’re bound to meet your own share of tree-huggers.

but hahaha it’s okay
we’re all entitled to our own comments.

weerez- don’t call me a failure… like i said: you don’t know me. you don’t know anything about me, except that my brother goes to BC and that i like the beach.

precocious- yeah i understand this is a BC board. i posted the comments specifically for the BC-hopefuls just so that they can realize that it’s possible for BC to not be what it seems it is. i’m sure that you can argue these cases on boards for every school – somebody will always be upset everywhere. but, i don’t know about those other schools and only about BC. i was just trying to say that for someone looking for a conservative Catholic school, BC might not be for them. it’s clearly not for everyone, at least, since now there’s another person who says he doesn’t like BC and wishes to transfer.

Wait!!! Bc Isn’t Going To Be Just Like The Fancy Pamphlets?!?!?! The Horror!

I Owe You My Life, Lylbeachbabe.

k cool. why are you typing like that?

I really hope BC isnt conservative. that’d be a deal breaker for me:D
