Brown 2024 Waitlist

More importantly, those taken in the later waves might already have had to submit tuition payments or even move into/begin classes at their current school. Since freshmen won’t even be taking classes (well, just one) at Brown this fall, it’s less of an issue for them; but it would be pretty heart-wrenching (for me, at least) to get offered a spot at Brown and not be able to take it due to already being locked into another school.

@BobbyMaye First years haven’t registered for any classes yet since they are not starting until spring semester. Many schools don’t require first tuition payment until August.

True, but Brown has said that the waitlist may be maintained as late as the end of August. I suspect most schools require tuition payments (and start their academic term) before then.

When do you guys think Brown will update us? I honestly want a final decision from them asap

The PDF on my portal just vanished… Did it also for you all?

@ownvisual9 Yes, it disappeared for me as well. You can still directly access the PDF at /sites/g/files/dprerj526/files/Wait%20List%20Q%26A%202024%20Online_0.pdf on the “admission” subdomain of Brown’s website (sorry for the weird formatting, but I neither understand nor want to deal with CC’s opaque rules regarding links).

Also, for what it’s worth, it seems like Brown’s movement has recently been happening on Thursdays (6/25 and 7/16 being the most recent), and given that those who most recently received acceptances had until the 29th to decide, I suppose there’s a non-zero chance some people might hear something on the 30th. This is pure speculation, though.

I just got an email about an update a few minutes ago telling me I got rejected. Oh well, it’s way too late to care anyway. So long, Brown.

Also just got rejected. I wonder if this is the waitlist closing or just another wave.

Just got rejected — no email received though. Most likely the waitlist closed. It’s Yale for me!

rejected. oh well

My son just got off the wait list this afternoon!

Just got off the waitlist today and was admitted into the class of 2024! A bit disappointed that it was this late, as I was already set on going to WashU and was accepted into a selective program within the school with access to great premed connections that I really like, so I’m not sure what to actually do. If anyone has any tips as to what I should do or things to take into consideration as I decide whether or not to accept my offer to Brown, especially at this late time, would really mean the world to me. Thank you and I really hope for the best for everyone else! This year has really been like no other.

It seems more recent (2018,2019,2020)ranking or discussion of pre-med schools, WashU is ranked higher than Brown, really need to look into the details and which one fits to your needs better. I can’t post the links, but you can search the pre-med ranking.

@BobbyMaye I just made this account so I can’t PM yet (maybe if you message me first it will work?), but I am in the exact same situation as you and have no idea what to do… I know this isn’t helpful but I would love to hear your thought process because I am pretty lost as well

BobbyMaye,

I don’t have any answers for you but well done, You persevered and you have at least two world class options. My younger son is attending Brown as a freshman and he belatedly likes the idea of a Spring semester start, given how much of a mess the fall experience will be at many schools. Best of luck to you!

BobbyMaye and csibem. You obviously have two great choices to consider. You can’t go wrong either way. My son just got accepted off the waitlist, as well. He also intends to follow the pre-med track. He will be declining his acceptance. He really liked Brown, but with decisions dragging on so long, he set his heart on Northwestern. Like Wash U, it has a higher pre-med ranking than Brown. He also got into some selective programs and has already some great opportunities for next summer through asking questions and networking with alumni.

Having Brown start in the spring was a big factor. With Covid he wouldn’t have many opportunities to fill the fall in a meaningful way and didn’t want to waste a few months doing nothing as he waited to start classes. He also didn’t want to go straight through from spring to fall and lose a summer experience opportunity. There’s no right answer. You just need to go with your gut like my son did. Had Brown accepted him earlier, he probably would have accepted since he wouldn’t have looked so in depth at Northwestern. My best advice is to forget the name or prestige, Med schools don’t care where you did your undergrad. A good percentage of Top 20 med school classes are filled by kids that come from small liberal arts colleges. Med schools want to see top grades, great MCAT scores, research and volunteer experience, and well-rounded students. It was that way when I went to med school and is still that way today.

My best advice would be to consider all the positive and negatives of each school and what they have to offer and figure out which one you think you be happiest at, do best at and which has better opportunities to participate in campus activities that are outside of academics. Also consider which is the best fall back for Plan B should you decide not to go to med school. Both schools are strong schools for med school acceptance if you get the GPA and test scores needed.

@BobbyMaye @csibem Congrats to you both! I’m not sure how previously referenced rankings are made (subjective versus objective) but perhaps this data will be helpful. Look on WashU website to see if similar data is available for comparison. Good luck! https://www.brown.edu/academics/college/advising/health-careers/medical-admission-data-snapshot

Thanks everyone! Without corona I probably would have chosen Brown, but I really just want to get started with college already and Brown’s trimester plan is… kind of terrible (imo). Still not sure what I’ll choose yet, but most of the advice I’ve been getting is to just stick with WashU so I can be on campus by September… but we’ll see

My son officially declined his acceptance to Brown today. He will be starting at Northwestern in the fall. Since the waitlist is supposed to stay open until the end of the month, hopefully this will open an opportunity to someone on the waitlist.
