I’M NOT SUBMITTING SAT ONLY ACT

For Brown, my teacher mailed in the letter of recommendation on Wedesday. However the admissions office closes from today till January 2nd and the deadline is January 1st. Does this mean my application well be late? What a waste of time doing the application if it is

Generally colleges require that the application is received by the deadline but they allow a bit more time to receive teacher recommendations. Also, in this circumstance, they will see that the recommendation was postmarked before the deadline.

Is anyone else not applying to many schools? I’m only doing UOregon (already accepted), Barnard, Brown, and Portland State (financial backup). I know four is pretty low but I don’t see the point in applying somewhere if I don’t genuinely want to go.

@musemuse If you don’t want to go, then I agree, don’t apply. However, depending on your criteria (for example, location: are you looking everywhere in the country? Outside of the US? Just coasts?), I think you can find a lot more than just four colleges you would genuinely like to go to. There are a LOT of colleges out there, and (speaking from experience) if you research with an open mind, you’ll find some surprisingly lovely schools :slight_smile: Of course, knowing that you’ve gotten into UOregon will limit your list (no point applying to schools you like even a little less)! Congrats, BTW.

It IS a little late to add schools, especially because your teachers/school probably won’t be able to send stuff before New Year’s, but there are schools whose deadlines are later (I know there are some Jan 10th, I think there were a few that are Jan 15th). I have a pretty large list (nineteen schools, I believe?) but I only truly finished researching and adding last Monday (because my school said they weren’t going to send to more schools after that).

BOTTOM LINE, four might not be too little, and those are wonderful schools, but you should try to search for more schools. I’m assuming your apps are mostly, if not completely, done. Spending a good number of hours (even a full day) just researching might be worth it—you never know, maybe one of those colleges will be the perfect fit, the one that you end up going to and loving.

@redcloud17 I could finish probably three or four more apps before the Jan 1 deadline (essays are my strong suit), but tbh I’ve been doing in depth research of colleges since 9th grade. My dream schools have changed over time, and I’ve come to the following decision: I love Oregon. I’ve lived here for most of my life, bar travelling, and I’m in a weird position where love all the schools I’m applying to equally (except for PSU, I don’t have anything against it, but it’s mainly to cover my *ss) and I really haven’t any other schools I love the same way. Most of the people I know, though, are applying to 10+.

anyone can check my essays pm me

If you want to submit another rec, is it supposed to be sent in before Jan (the regular app deadline)?

Hi guys, from the brown website it says “If you have submitted the essay section of the SAT or the writing section of the ACT there is no need to submit a graded paper.” Is it still more advantageous to submit the graded paper?

For the Brown Graded paper can it be a poem from English Class? Or does it have to be an expository essay?

@llama07 : See https://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/first-year-applicants/standardized-tests

The graded paper can be any length.

@MyGPAIsAnL Sorry for the late reply! But yeah, I can definitely see how writing about a mission trip can come off as pretentious. The thing about my trip is that it felt very much real to me, and I didn’t talk about a huge personal change because one didn’t really occur (it’s usually very cheesy anyways); it was more about a realization about my passions and how this trip helped me realize what I wanted to do in the future. Most of my essay focused on the kids and how they helped me see things in a new light. Honestly, though, if you write about something that’s very much real and you express it in a “real” way, I think that it can be evident. I sat down one afternoon and typed it all out, then went back and changed grammatical errors. The core of it remained the same because that was how I wanted to come across: genuine and sincere. Hope that this helped!

yall is the brown interview/video portfolio required??

@soccerlove6 I’m pretty certain it’s required…but you choose which one you want to do. I think the deadline to choose an interview was yesterday and videos are due by March 1.

@soccerlove6 … I’m going to rephrase my answer…the interview/video isn’t required but you do have to opt in to request an interview or to submit a video and there are deadlines for those.

Did anyone from FL get an interview? :((

Hey, can anyone who applied RD view their financial aid status? Mine says “access to view your Financial Aid status will be available shortly. Check back in 5-7 days for an update”. I’m worried that I’m the only one!
