Why is this thread so dead :sob:

Hopefully it starts picking up once March starts.

Anyone else on here? What majors are everyone applying for?

My daughter applied for CS and she says she likes the open curriculum concept at Brown

what is the major you all applied and what was your main reason to apply at Brown?

Engineering and my son likes the interdisciplinary approach.

I applied for political science, and they have like a really cool focus on social advocacy and a lot of opportunities to give back

I’m confused by the comments on here about applying for specific concentrations. I went to Brown a million years ago and there was no such thing as applying by concentration. You couldn’t even declare a concentration until end of sophomore year. I didn’t think that had changed? My D26 may apply next year and this is the first I’ve heard of this.

the application asks for your intended first and second concentrations

I see. So just as a note of general interest? It’s been a few years since I was an alumni interviewer but I don’t think they admit by major at all.

Yeah I guess it must be just a general interest thing

You are not held to it. This is basically another way of asking “what interests you” and “where do you see yourself going” at this moment. It’s a big missed opportunity and a bit misguided to go with the undecided option.

Ultimately, schools want to accept students that will eventually fill all departments, so most colleges will ask this.

Has anybody submitted the mid year explanation? We searched on google and not many results for this or if it makes a difference to explain a poor grade in the mid year report.

I didn’t, but I imagine it’s too late for it to make a difference; I’m sure it couldn’t hurt

Any word on whether the IDOC astro still works?

I would imagine so, did you get a request?
