deferred. I’m moving on. My advice is also to forget it for those also deferred. It’s way too selective to think you still have a chance; 91% ish will be rejected if they got deferred. Keep your head up because there are so many great schools you can be happy at. Plus, you might even be happier somewhere else. The name is only a name cause if your smart, people around you will recognize that and you will be fine. More than fine actually cause your smart. The people who got rejected too, you will be fine. You will face many more rejections in life and trust me its ok. When it all comes down to it, at the end of the day, what really matters is that you lived your life with love, and you are the best person you can be every day. You’ll probably even laugh someday that you got rejected or deferred because it is still essentially a lottery to get into these schools right now. I know I’m qualified, I’m at the top of my class, I have a great gpa, and won academic awards, but it doesn’t matter. Guys, focus on doing good in this world and making the people around you smile because that’s what you will be remembered for. People remember how others make them feel, and care little about your numbers and stats. If anything, saying them will make others feel insecure, less than you, and probably not like you because you’re “perfect.” Be human. Live life. Have fun.

MY DD would like to retake her subject tests… to help with her deferal, but it appears that college board does not offer them again until May? Makes no sense to me as tons of people will want retakes right now. Anyone have insight into this?
Ideally the subject tests are taken in spring of jr year so any retake can happen in the fall. No more retakes are possible.
“MY DD would like to retake her subject tests… to help with her deferral,”
Honestly, even if she could retake them, I doubt that boosting her subject test scores would have much of an impact on your DD’s chances in the RD round. Brown has cut down on the number of deferrals this year, and the fact that your DD got deferred tells me that academically, she is qualified to get in already. Whether she does or not will likely come down to other things, largely beyond her control. At this point, your DD should probably put Brown on the back burner and focus on her apps to other schools.
@TheBigChef Thanks for the information on Brown deferrals. How do you know that they only deferred 25% of the applicants this year?
@desie1 an email was sent out to guidance counselors before decision day, also it is posted in a press release
Brown 2022 here. I applied ED, was deferred, and then accepted. Like for many of you, Brown was my dream school, so getting in after giving up all hope was the most indescribable feeling. However…my first year was a terrible experience. Truly awful. Nothing to do with Brown itself, just the particular circumstances I had to deal with. It was crushing to feel so excited to go to my dream school after having been deferred, only to want to transfer after my first semester. My point is for all of you deferred or rejected, you may be idealizing an institution that you actually cannot fully understand until you experience it. You dream school may be a terrible place for you; your afterthought institution may be where you make the best memories of your life. I know this can’t get rid of the pain many of you feel, but I want to put out there what I wish I had known myself. Put any school—or any thing—on a pedestal and it may very well let you down.
Congrats to all the students that got accepted. Decided to come back to give some encouragement to those that were deferred or rejected (like my daughter). If you had a strong app and didn’t make the cut, some other school will likely give you merit. Just found out this past week my daughter got into 3 other great schools, two of them giving big time $$$$ to her surprise and my surprise. Christmas came early. Keep hunting. We were in an EFC situation where financial aid was going to be zero no matter what school, so merit was the only option.
To dadwiseadvice, congratulations on meritaid, would you mind my asking where you received from ? We are in same situation and wanted to make sure we’ve covered all the best bases before application deadlines run out. Happy holidays everyone! (Brown or no Brown!!)
hello, applied rd!
I submitted my Brown supplement a couple hours after the deadline because I had a very late night family dinner on Jan 2.
Is Brown still going to accept it?

@PianoWinterfell my daughter applied last week but was reading up on colleges that extended their deadlines and said Brown extended their deadline. Check into this.
@PianoWinterfell, Yes, the deadline was extended until Sunday so you should be fine.
That’s great to know. Thank you so much!
