Brown Class of 2024

Pomona, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Smith, Vassar, Swarthmore. Plenty of good schools with open curriculum.

Oh my god I got accepted. I thought I was rejected for sure after that whole Banner incident since I didn’t see anything on mine. I got an amazing financial offer too.

@helgah thank you sm

I’m in the same boat, accepted by Brown but deferred from PLME.

If we may know your stats and notable accomplishments it would be a tremendous help and insight! @ramen2020

rejected

My daughter was rejected but we expected that

Curious about the SAT/ACT scores for those who were accepted (if you don’t mind sharing)?

@HopefulParent69
My SAT was 1560

My SAT score was 1520 but I didn’t submit it. I submitted my ACT score instead and my best scores for each category were: Composite: 35 E: 36 R: 36 M: 36 S:34 W: 10/12.

1590 (790 Math, 800 EBRW)

ACT 36

For those defered, what name appears on the bottom of your deferral? I am wondering if it is the Dean of Admissions or your admission officer? I have read in past posts that people sent emails to thier admissions officer when writing to express continued interest? How do you determine who was assigned to manage your application? Thank you.

Logan Powell was on the bottom of mine

What are the chances of getting in from a deferral? I think the chances are pretty low. I think it’s a nice way of saying your stats are all there but you just don’t stand out to us. What would be different in the Regular Round with all the rejects from ED Yale, Harvard, ect. vying for a spot. And I say this from the POV of my dc who was deferred who is feeling his hand forced to ED2 elsewhere.

I was deferred

“What are the chances of getting in from a deferral? I think the chances are pretty low. I think it’s a nice way of saying your stats are all there but you just don’t stand out to us.”

Last year, the deferral rate was 55% (which is ridiculous - no need to string that many people along). This year, it’s been cut to roughly 25%, which means that your chances of getting in RD after being deferred are better than they were in years past. Still, the odds are slim, no better than the 6% overall admission rate, and maybe lower than that. If you have an ED 2 school in mind, the smart play is probably to move on from Brown and apply ED 2 to that school. Otherwise, hope for the best in the RD round but focus on you applications to other schools.

Based on some of the press releases from Brown about their institutional goals for this year, my suggestion would be if you do not have any socioeconomic hooks or legacy, I say forget Brown and move on. The dean has explicitly stated that they are trying to recruit more minorities and rural students with more generous financial aid offers. Perhaps all this is a reaction to the scandal last year. Regardless, let it go. It’s not you. You have zero control over institutional priorities, and this year’s institutional priority does not favor you.

Cry for two minutes, fret, fume, let it out. Then, move on.

Rejected with a 4.0 GPA and 1560 SAT, tons of extracurriculars, and pretty decent essays. Not even deferred, I’m super sad and confused

Totally understandable. Realize that you did all you can do, but with these super selective schools, it often comes down to things beyond your control. With you stats and EC’s, you are sure to get into some great schools. Chin up.
