Brown Class of 2024

same

@greatcollegefit sorry I have not logged on in while to this forum…his interview was with brown alumni…very relaxed he said…good conversation about school, future plans, the world events of the day etc… he said he felt really good about it afterwards. He applied RD with interest specifically in PMLE. Currently has accepted at a HYP school 8n the Early action rounds.

@PAdude Thank you for the reply. D’s interview is next week and is a little anxious. Congratulations on the HYP decision.

Did you end up doing a video? I’m not too knowledgeable about tech/video-making. So I don’t really want to submit one.

Hey, I did do the video and there’s not much difficulty in going about it. Just shoot a 2 min video on any device(they said that video quality is not imp) and upload the vid!

Not really sure about that

Good luck all!

Just had my interview (over video call)! Went 40-45 minutes, seemed pretty good overall. Let me know if you want me to elaborate.

@a2cissuperior would love to hear more. Question and answer type session, or more conversational? Was focus on past school record or more future related? Anything you want to share would be great.

More on the “question and answer”-y side. Roughly 30 minutes of questions + elaborations and 10 minutes for me to ask questions. If I remember correctly, the questions were (a few presumably tailored to me, marked with *):

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Why'd you choose to go to boarding school?*
  • What do you know about Brown? (I worked this into a "Why Brown"-esque answer).
  • Something you do outside of school.
  • Do you have close friends?* This was a very weird curveball.
  • Why X major.
  • Future plans?

The interviewer was pretty nice and casual. He was talking about how he met his wife at Brown and how he could smell the marijuana when he walked into the dorm!
¯_(ツ)_/¯

@a2cissuperior Thank you for the feedback. That’s great. Those curveball questions are always difficult. Super easy to answer if a friend is asking you, but when an interviewer asks, makes you stop and say, hmmm.

anyone not get an email about interviews or the video portfolio? what does this mean?

HashBrown3…yes, we got the email. Not quite sure. They say it is not mandatory but I encouraged her to do it.

@Sophem I didn’t get an email at all and I don’t know what that means.

@HashBrown3 I heard Brown’s interview reports due was earlier than years before… like 2/1. Whoever wasn’t going to get an interview in the area with not enough alums got the email around 1/23-24 saying they can upload a 2-minute video in place of an interview.

The portal also changed from:
Alumni Interview - Please be patient as our interviewers continue to reach out to applicants to arrange a convenient tie to meet…

to:
portfolio - We look forward to viewing your video portfolio…

Interview or video are not required. Do the video only if you are sure that will add new and positive aspects to your application.

Interviews and videos are apparently given the same weight

My son still hasn’t heard anything about an interview. Considering it’s February 09, it seems it might already be too late to get an interview. We are not sure what to make of this.

@OverseasFather - my daughter received an email that they were not able to offer her an interview due to availability in the area of her prep school. However, she received another interview where the interviewer came to her campus which was very nice.

@OverseasFather I think they were supposed to email your son already if they couldn’t assign your son an interviewer. It’s possible your son was assigned an interviewer who simply hasn’t contacted him yet? I believe that happened to another student at my school last year.

I applied RD and had my interview in December. Honestly, it felt like the interviewer was just talking to me the whole time about Brown, I could barely get a word in except for the questions I asked at the end. Because of this, I feel like I didn’t get a chance to stand out in my interview, but hopefully that doesn’t hurt me. On the bright side, I learned an hour’s worth of information about Brown! It just made me want to go there even more.
