has anyone accessed the course catalog? i’m asking because it greets me with my personal name–wondering if that means anything?

@starplatinum The course catalog also greets me with my personal name, but I’m not sure if it means anything since signing up for courses isn’t applicable until you’re enrolled, not just admitted. Does anyone else also see their name on the course catalog?

It sucks that it likely isn’t. When I searched for the course catalog mine automatically logged me in. I didn’t have to do anything. Anyone else have that happen?

@Johnsmith900 Yeah, I was automatically logged in. Again, I doubt it’s an indicator of admission unless you are actually able to enroll in a course, which I highly doubt is possible.

@ushshi The weird thing is that if you were to open the course catalog on a different device (one that doesn’t have your Brown portal password autofilled or something like that), and you tried to log in, you wouldn’t be able to log in that because we do not have a Brown student account. It requires a username, and we do not have a username from our portal. But somehow, we can log in as if we are Brown students. My father says that this is because Brown stored our cookies and that we can view these cookies and perhaps find the username that Brown is plugging in for us when it logs us onto the course catalog. Trying to find your username and seeing if you can log into various Brown student services may be interesting. This is merely speculation however. It may be something to keep you from being bored while we are trapped in our houses.
damn does anyone know the format of brown usernames? i wonder if we knew the format of email usernames, we could email them ourselves–and if the email doesn’t bounce back, that could be a sign we are admitted and that our email accounts are active?

@starplatinum I think the username is the first letter of your first name followed by your entire last name. I tried to log in to one of the services, and it just said that the password was incorrect, not the username. I honestly doubt Brown would indicate admissions decisions in this way because I’m sure students in the past have tried to do the same thing ahahaha but I mean it is an interesting way to pass time.
@user_518392 The course catalog will greet you by name if you go into Banner and go to like student or something like that (it’s the page where it mentioned course enrollment and from there you can access a link to Courses@Brown or something). When you click that link it will take you to the course page with your name in the corner.
@starplatinum As for usernames, I saw on some brown site that it is usually something like your first initial followed by your last name. Only problem is that you may just be using the username of a current or past student if you try to bash the password or try a Forgot My Password thing (but I don’t know if you can do that).
