don’t you HAVE to take the SAT 2’s?

what is that in reference to?
Yes I believe 3 sat2’s are required for Brown.

But if you submit the ACT, SAT II’s are not required.

because someone on the roster said they didn’t have any.
Its funny to call it a roster.

I forgot about the ‘other’ test (ACT)…

But what else would you call it? :)

How many of you are URM’s? Do any of you have any good “hooks”? Does Brown care about financial disadvantages, enough to claim it as a hook? Such as…being on reduced lunch, having a yearly income of less than 20K…

I think that might be a hook if you work it well…like talk about the difficulties you’ve had with it and how you’ve survived and been able to succeed despite all that.

I’m not an URM nor do I have a hook :(

I’m a URM…

This is a little late… but thanks, Zante!
You rock, too (FYI I looove NYC).

And I got into the College.

i dont think Brown worries about the URM thing as much, really (someone correct me if i’m wrong lol)

also they are need blind in admissions, so unless you specifically talk about financial disadvantages I don’t think it would make a big difference

I’m not sure exactly how much Brown cares about URM status. Does anyone??? I hope they care…

I think they care just about as much as any other ivy. It matters a decent amount.

I’m a little annoyed. I was given an interviewer, but he regualarly lives 3 hours south of me (not too far for the West, but not close by any means). To add insult to injury, he is now 3 hours to the North (I’m not blaming him, of course, but Brown) for the winter, actually IN CANADA.

I don’t see any real option (Brown is not my #1 choice) but to just do a phone interview. I don’t have time to go to Canada for a day, and it would be imposing to assume anything else.

Any suggestions?

Woot, I got my interview and all that; however, I learned that the SATII’s are not just reccomended, the admissions office told me that you are required to have three of any kind, so tomorrow morning I get to do them standby, excepting that I honestly have no clue and simply have to hope that my elite skills are up to par. Yes, my hook is that I come from nothing and yet am motivated to go as far as I have. I got rank three in my class, but I only care at all because of the 10k scholarship which I might still get since they both have almost full rides. My courseload was much more difficult than theirs, so I am satisfied.

Brown does not require or even recommend from what I can tell, the SAT II’s.

SAT I AND SAT II; ACT
Brown requires every applicant for admission to Brown in 2004-05 to submit results of either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) and any three SAT II Subject Tests, or the American College Test (ACT).

For students who are currently juniors in secondary school (members of the Class of 2006) and who will apply for admission to Brown in 2005-06, the testing requirement is slightly different. Beginning in Spring 2005, the SAT I will be known as the SAT Reasoning Test and the SAT II as the SAT Subject Tests. Applicants will be required to submit results of the SAT Reasoning Test and any two SAT Subject Tests (except for the SAT II Writing Test). Alternatively, an applicant may submit results of the ACT which takes the place of both the SAT Reasoning Test and the SAT Subject Tests. If choosing the ACT, it must be taken with the Writing Test option.

Nickleby: I don’t think a phone interview would be a problem. That was the only option my interviewer gave me; she just called one day and asked if I had a few minutes. I’m sure he’d understand the inconvenience.

My interviewer was about a 200 yrds from my house. I walked to his law office. :-)
