Brown University- LOWER GPA but GREAT ECs

Hi! I’m a 2018-2019 applicant to Brown RD with
GPA: 3.7/4.0
ACT: 30
Major: East Asian Studies
I’m South Korean, I’ve taken Chinese for 7 years and am in AP Chinese, know Korean and Japanese fluently, which I hope is a huge plus for the major as we have to speak fluently at least one of these languages!
I do Speech and Debate and I’m a triple Yale Champion, Princeton Champion, University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions Champion, Triple NJ State Champion, 2-time Harvard Finalist, Princeton Runner-Up, 2-time University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions Runner Up, NJ State Runner Up, New York National Invitational Champion, Glenbrooks Chicago Champion, and ranked #1 in speech on 5 different speech rankings websites.

I received 3 Governor’s Awards from the NJ Government for excellence in Speech and Debate

All my speeches pertain to East Asian subjects, which I feel would be beneficial to my major.

I received an Academic All American Award

I spoke a TED Talk on the detrimental effects of the One Child Policy in China

I wrote two books that have ranked on Barnes and Nobles best sellers

I’m also a Chinese tutor for kids and worked at a corporation for a couple years as a Foreign Report Editor where I would take foreign reports and translate them to English/edit grammar

I grew up below the poverty level.

I’m worried about my GPA and ACT score since they weigh very heavily that Brown won’t even take a second glance at me, but my dad says I have a great shot. I’m not that great at math and science but I didn’t know if it would matter due to my major as much-- I’ve always taken Honors and APs when it comes to English and History.
