What? You have so many edits, right now.

I only said anything dealing with hipsters once and that was “#Hipsterism”.

yes I do frequently edit for spelling. Apologies. And by the time that edit goes thru…
never mind niquii

Musicamusica - relax. No one here is offended that others don’t share their musical tastes. Chacun a son gout (not sure how to put accents in). If the hipster shoe doesn’t fit, don’t wear it.

I know from the totality of your posts that you pride yourself on a higher degree of musical sophistication than most. Great! Enjoy.

I wish my D had hipster leanings. Clothes shopping would be much easier and much cheaper. I have a friend who is textbook hipster. She loves her thrift shop trips and when she spots a great buy on a designer label, she brings it to my D. And scarves - she’s never without one.

I thought the show was great for what it was. A Super Bowl half time show. It was fun and family friendly.Crazy rock stars with their shirts off was as edgy as it got. Good for grandma and little Johnny sitting on the couch together. The light display and fireworks were awesome.

Amazing how little Bruno mars has changed since he was doing Elvis impressions at 6 years old.

Big thumbs up from me.

I guess technically “your sex takes me to paradise” isn’t family friendly, but hey, you take what you can get! At least he didn’t do “Gorilla” …

My not-quite hipster daughter, in 6th grade (back in the 20th Century), got into a fistfight with a boy over the relative merits of Dar Williams and Korn. The teachers could barely stop laughing long enough to discipline them. Both kids were very passionate about their music tastes.

Niqui77’s definition of hipsterism is a little reductive, but I remember well the time in 2005 when my daughter’s friends decided they had to remove the Arcade Fire from their iPods because it had gotten too mainstream-popular. They were really sad about it, too; they liked the Arcade Fire, but they didn’t want to be caught listening to it anymore. (Now, it’s just dad-rock; they don’t care at all.) (And, just for reference, 2005 was probably at least a couple years before most of us heard about the Arcade Fire.)

When she was still writing about music, my daughter wrote some lovely pieces about the forbidden fruits, stuff she wouldn’t listen to in public but loved in private. Things like “Thunder Road” and the Graceland album. There’s actually sort of a hipster meme about Graceland. In one song, the ukulele-strumming woman sings “It’s like loving Graceland: It’s not allowed to be, but we know that it’s everyone’s favorite.”

In any event, Bruno Mars is a thorough professional who wants to please all of the people at least some of the time, which means not remotely hip. Nor, for that matter, is the Superbowl. The whole thing defines the non-hip. (When my daughter was roommates with a cartoonist, her friend did a comic one of the points of which was to mock my daughter for understanding what was going on if she saw a football game on TV. When I saw the comic, that was news to me.) That’s how little hipsterism actually matters.

See Arcade Fire, I dont get. My youngest likes them, but they leave me meh.
But I plan my vacations around Pearl Jam shows.
I would be happy even just going to Eddie (Vedder) & Glen ( Hansard) concerts for the rest of my life.
Soundgarden is playing Sasquatch however, I might go just to see if anyone from their drummers " side project" shows up. ;)

He sold out all 3 of his HI shows in 24 hours following his SBowl performance. he attended public HS in HI.

Thats pretty cool.
The only Hawaiian musician Ive seen lately is Boom Gaspar, from Waimanalo.

Even my metal-loving H thought Bruno Mars put on a great show. My singer-songwriter-loving D has long been a Bruno Mars fan - she has told us all along that he is a great performer. My S — he of the post-rock persuasion — probably thought it was a meh show … but we didn’t ask him! :)

Watching Colbert Report and thinking he has a very hipster band on tonight - Lake Street Dive.

@kels- my dad is a KISS/Black Sabbath/ACDC kind of man and he, too, loved Bruno.

Had no idea what a “Bruno” was though when we were talking about him LOL

The National!!!
