In my whole high school career I got only 3 B’s as final grades… All from Soph Year. Im a junior and the chances of anymore B’s are nonexistent, cuz I have pretty high A’s now.
Does that kill my chances? I’m taking my SATs soon, and I think 2250-2320ish is my current range…
I have:
Lots of clubs (working on the high up roles). I plan on sacking the Clubs i dont get roles in leaving me posssibly putting down with pingpong club (i actually enjoy ping pong), science fair club, club med, history day, possible math league, im on varsity scholastic scrimmage, but not tv team :(, engineering club (no roles, but I love the club), and maybe red cross club and poli science (i did lots of competitions) I might even be able to put in mock trial because of all the competitions ive done

Out of school activities like teaching at my sunday school, and attending very advanced arabic classes, weightlifting, soccer, pingpong, getting a teaching job when im old enough this summer at kumon, I had some poetry published a few years back in middle school…would that count? I had some work published and I think it was from HS, some summer camps, i went to a weekly medical career program at the local hospital for 3/4 months in fresh year, and did 1 shadowing session and im trying to get another in the surgery room, science fair and history day, though i didnt get far…

150+ volunteering hours at my local library and i mite try to get a volunteering post at the local hospital this summer

Im trying very hard to get a spot to attend a “Mini-Med School” at my local hospital soon.

I also have a DECENT chance of getting my patent. Its nearly done, and its so weird but cool that it should be able to pass through

Plz be truthful. Im a junior and I want to know if theres even a chance, cuz I need some motivation rite now

It’s good that you can show them an upward trend. I had three Bs as well in high school, all in my first two years. After that, nothing but As. A few Bs will not kill you. The rest of your profile looks fine.

There are a lof of students at Columbia that got some Bs in high school. There are thousands of 4.0s that have gotten rejected. don’t sweat the sophomore Bs. You will be fine. Work hard in class, on your ECs and write some great essays. You will be fine.

Don’t worry about it. I actually got two Cs while in highschool (both Junior year) and I got into SEAS early decision (class of '15). What people don’t seem to understand is that Columbia is way more than your grades-- WAY more. It’s about you as a person. You have to be interesting, have a passion, be worthwhile. Having a high GPA does not guarantee any of those things, and a high GPA is a dime a dozen for an ivy league school. Focus on pursuing your passions and they’ll recognize that.

I agree with the above comments. There is so much more to the admissions process than GPA. I agree that it’s important, but I had 3 Bs too, so it’s not everything. Extracurriculars, your reading habits, your interests, are things that will matter just as much. Also, how you come across in your essay is important. Good luck!
