B's in freshmen year

I’m in freshmen year. My semester isn’t over but I have two B’s in my classes that I doubt i can bring up. Can I still be admitted into top uni’s even with these grades? especially for BSMD :(. Sorry if I sound desperate, I’m just really scared that my admission chances will be significantly lowered. (Extra Info: I do IB and my school is pretty rigorous )

Two B’s freshman year will not make or break your future applications. Try not to drive yourself crazy - you still have a long way to go before you start applying to college.

I would figure out why you got Bs - i.e. learn so that you don’t fall behind.

it’s far too early to worry about college admissions three years from now.

But few are perfect in life and you needn’t be either.

Look on the bright side, most top med schools don’t even offer a BS/MD program. As long as you keep persistent, get into UG and do well. You will have another shot at the T10 med schools.

Focus on the process not the results. You should always be more concerned about deeply understanding the material you are learning, if you do that the grades will come, and by the time you get to college you will have the capacity to completely absorb what is in the premed curriculum and have a meaningful learning experience in whatever major you choose. If you still want to be a physician that path will likely still be available to you.

“top uni’s” is completely dependent on who you are. When the time comes focus on finding the top universities for you that will give you opportunities to excel, not what some magazine or newspaper claims is the top. There are literally hundreds of universities in the US that have the potential to do that for you.

Its because of group projects where my fellow peers start lagging behind and NEVER TRY. Then because of that we get a ton of points off  It sucks being a perfectionist in a group of people who dont care lol

That’s a life lesson - you’ll experience that in hs, college, and at work - group work. Also can make for a great college essay - overcoming obstacles if you’re able to solve this issue.

If it’s truly the reason, you might ask others you look up to for strategies in enhancing your teams.

Back to the topic - no first year HSer- should have a college list - and I’m not even sure what a top uni is - it’s different to different people.

Be the best you - learn from your challenges and hopefully resolve them - and in a few years, you’ll know where you better stand - both for colleges that interest you from a fit POV and from an admissability POV.

You certainly needn’t go to a top university to go to medical school.

Good luck.
