Bs in the same subject?

Hi,

I’m planning on applying to top-tier universities (Ivies, etc.), but I do have 4 Bs on my transcript… all in math courses, which is my Achilles heel lol. I have one B second semester freshman year, two B+s in Calculus AB sophomore year, and a B+ in BC second semester junior year (managed to pull an A first semester because its material overlapped with AB).

I do have As in all my other courses and I’m planning on a Poli Sci/English major, which is completely unrelated to math… I also have redeeming AP scores (5 in Calc AB and probably for BC as well, 800 on Math II, and 800 SAT I Math portion).

The main thing I’m worried about is class rank- I go to a pretty competitive school but they rank based on the amount of As you get without taking into account course rigor. So my four Bs place me in top 10% only

I don’t know, how much would this hurt me for admissions? There’s a definite trend but it just worries me… Any input would be appreciated!

What is UW gpa?

@ZBlue17, 3.88 I believe. School doesn’t weigh GPA but I’ve taken two APs last year and four this year.

That shouldn’t discourage you from applying to top tier schools, as long as you also have matches and safeties.

If your HS has a Naviance system you can look at that for some guidance. Ivy and equivalents are pretty much reaches for everyone. It is fine to give some of those top tier schools a try, but be sure to have some matches and safetys as well.

You’ll be fine. My sister - Asian female - was in the same situation as you except she had one more B her junior year in math. Applied as a English major and got into Stanford REA, Brown, and Columbia. If your extracurriculars are solid as hers were you still have a good chance, especially since your standardized test scores are good.
